Oh, yes--they'd ONLY go that way to make certain the Golden Perch is up to Frodo's standards, once he removes to Buckland....

Heh!

Author Reply: Oh dear! I just discovered this comment today. Sorry to be so late but thanks very much Larner - I do appreciate it! :)
And yes, of course Merry and Pippin would ONLY go that way for Frodo's sake. What other reason could they have? ;)

I do a lot of things 'for research purposes' too. :) Drinking is not one of them, but this is a cute story.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I don't drink at all, so I can't say that I relate to that sort of research! But the main point I wanted to express was how much Merry and Pippin wanted to help Frodo in any way they could, and if that included keeping him well-fed, well-rested and comfortable for as long as possible, they wanted to be ready for that. Thanks for reading!

Research and preparation - very definitely Merry traits. And flexible too. Loved the bit about being ready to walk long distances. Just as well that they didn't really know.

Author Reply: Thanks, harrowcat! Merry really thought through the Conspiracy and his preparations that I figured he must have taken into account that the journey would be a physically difficult one. You are right - it's best he didn't realize what really lay ahead.

ROTFL!!!!

I can soooo see Merry and Pippin engaging themselves in this sort of "research" ... all for Frodo, of course. *snort*

Author Reply: They would do anything for their cousin...which of course would include knowing where Frodo could find food, drink and rest :)

So, they took exercise before they went with Frodo? That was definitely Merry's idea, wasn't it? But a very good idea, I must say.

"Frodo might want something to eat or drink, or a bit of rest, along the way. I think we ought to investigate every inn between Bag End and Crickhollow, so we’ll be prepared.”

It's very much like Pippin to combine practice with fun! Although, it didn't take him long to convince Merry as well - only for research, of course ;-)

Author Reply: I think it's very plausible that Merry and Pippin would have made every effort to be as prepared as possible. They would have wanted to prove to Frodo that they could keep up and be useful or else they would have been a liability. What I really wanted to show here was that Merry and Pippin were serious about accompanying Frodo on the Quest and would do anything to help him. Thanks for reading, Andrea! :)

Thank you for the smile :-)

The Fiddler's Elbow, eh! I think I have a case of that myself . . . LOL!

Well done, ST :-)

Author Reply: I'm so glad it made you smile!

I once saw a pub called The Fiddler's Elbow and I thought it was such a hobbity name. I'm sorry to hear that you have a case of it though!

Thanks for reading, Pearl!
