Ah sweet love, so glad to see!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Thanks so much! :D

I know how Pip feels - I always feel sorry for the dragon. And what a clever bit of foreshadowing, reminding us that fairy tales do not always end happily.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you could relate to Pippin. I do too. Thanks very much for reading!

Trust Pippin to find someone to empathise with, and in this case a helpful if doomed dragon. I love it. And Happy Birthday.

Author Reply: Thanks, Larner! I thought that Pippin would be compassionate to doomed dragons as well...he seems like the sympathetic type :)

p.s. happy birthday!

Author Reply: Thank you very much! :D

Aww. Such gentle foreshadowing. They all did live happily ever after, and yet were separated by circumstance, parted aforetimes.

This was cute, and so true, with little ones:
Then again, if Pippin's questions were not answered, there would be no sleep for anyone tonight.

Author Reply: I like a healthy dose of foreshadowing. It's good sometimes to balance out the fluff :)

Thanks very much for reading! I'm glad you liked that line - it was a favorite of mine as well. I love that the cousins know each other so well :)

Awww....it's *so* like Pippin to feel sorry even for the dragon. And I just love the way Frodo indulges him. They are so sweet together!

Author Reply: Yes, I do feel that Pippin is very sensitive and compassionate and would have felt sorry for the dragon. Frodo can't help but indulge Pippin, because he is also very sensitive to the needs of others. Thanks for reading!

AndreaReviewed Chapter: 80 on 1/21/2007
Awww! It's just like Pippin to feel sorry for that poor old dragon! And I'm quite sure that especially Frodo understood Pippin's feelings.

That's what makes Tolkien's stories so fascinating: they are not fairy tales. There is not simply black and white, but instead all shades of grey. A good one can turn bad, and vice versa. That's life! And that's why I love Tolkien's stories.

Thank you very much, and happy birthday to you :)

Author Reply: Thank you Andrea, for reading and for the birthday wishes! I agree with you, a wonderful aspect of Tolkien's stories is the complexity of the characters and the fact that there are many facets to each personality. I'm very glad you enjoyed :)

Very nice! I like the bit of foreshadowing with the idea that even happy endings are often not totally happy.

Author Reply: Thanks very much, Pearl! I like a healthy dose of foreshadowing :D

That is one of the wondrous things about Tolkien's work isn't it? There is a complete range of emotional depths and heights; the charming simplicity of Bilbo wanting to write 'and they all lived happily to the end of their days; Boromir's and Denethor's awful endings and the sadness/despair of Frodo leaving at the Havens, not to mention the even more epic themes portrayed in the Silmarilion etc. Our mythology and classic fairy tales are quite stern reading for discerning children who, like Pippin, are quite able to see beyond the glib ending.

Wow, deep thoughts for a busy Sunday evening. And you have put it so much better without having to spell it out! I stand in awe!

BTW - did I spot that birthday greetings were in order? If so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Author Reply: Heehee, how did you find me out? Are you on livejournal as well? Thanks for the birthday wishes! :)

Thank you also for your thoughtful feedback. It IS a wonderful aspect of Tolkien's work that he wrote such complex characters and themes. And yes, some fairy tales are very frightening! I can see how one could upset a child as sensitive as Pippin.

I'm very glad you enjoyed! :)
