Dreamflower's Mathoms I  by Dreamflower 16 Review(s)

*giggles madly*
Oh, this was hilarious!!! But I can so understand him. I'd rather take a fever than go to the dentist myself. (I could cry just at the thought of having to make an appointment.)

The giant pink rabbits almost had me fall from my chair. Oh, poor, stubborn Took!

Author Reply: This was in part inspired by my husband, who felt exactly as you feel (and Paladin) about dentists until he had all his teeth pulled. (In the hospital, under general anesthesia!) Just so he'd *never* have to go to a dentist again!

The same for the giant pink rabbits--that's an exact hallucination he gets if he has a high temperature: pink rabbits trying to steal the roof!

LOL! Mercy on us! And I thought Bagginses were stubborn! Good gracious, doesn't Pal know how to act like an adult yet? Glad his wife and sisters know how to handle him. Giant pink rabbits *suppressing a chuckle*; now that would be a sight for sore eyes! LOL!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: The Tooks were also legendary for their stubbornness--especially among the healers!

Paladin does know how to act like an adult. However pain and fever rather caused him to completely regress to toddlerhood!

The giant pink rabbits trying to remove the roof are an actual hallucination my dear husband gets when he spikes a high fever--fortunately not something that has happened often over the last almost 30 years--but absolutely true nevertheless!

(snicker) I seem to remember a reference to this tale from It Takes a Took. I was hoping to come upon it sooner or later. Stubborn indeed! I don't think I've met anyone more obstinate in my life! LOL, pink bunny rabbits...

Pippinfan

Author Reply: Yes, it was one of those many "throw-away" anecdotes (and you are right about which story) that somehow linger in my mind and later on turn into full-fledged bunnies...

Oh, Paladin was *certainly* obstinate, though I think perhaps his Baggins cousin could give him a run for his money...

I love the giant pink rabbits! *Great* touch!

Author Reply: LOL! Those "giant pink rabbits" are what my own husband experienced when he had a very high temperature!

Very good characterizations, and I love that Harvey has come to Middle Earth! Giggling!

Author Reply: *chuckle* "Harvey"? With Paladin as Jimmy Stewart, eh? Believe it or not, the giant pink rabbits taking the roof off is an actual hallucination my husband gets when he has a high fever. (Fortunately, it's only happened a handful of times in the last 29 years.) He loves the movie "Harvey". I wonder if that's where he got it from?

Great fun!! Like Father . . . Well Done!! :)

Author Reply: *grin*
Well, now you know: Paladin is an even *worse* patient than his son, LOL!

GamgeeFestReviewed Chapter: 30 on 3/23/2005
LOL, Paladin is even worse than Pippin! There's nothing like an older sister to set him straight. Very amusing story.

Author Reply: Primrose is not going to be in the least intimidated by her baby brother's growls--Thain or no Thain.
I figure that Paladin is where Pippin got it from. But Pippin learned his lesson (in the tea-and-tonic story) and his father never had to.

Ow! Now I suddenly feel the desire to brush my teeth, lol. I love stubborn Paladin! He is just like any sick Took, lol and I love how the family and healers treat him, Thain or no. :)

Author Reply: Yes, by all means avoid Paladin's fate!

Just like any sick Took: exactly! And he's not used to that at all, LOL!

Love this one... A tooth ache turns Paladin into a whinning child, refusing any help for it. Giant Pink Rabbits,lol... Now that I'd love to see... His own sister even had to get after him,a stubbron Took for sure....

Nice job..

Author Reply: Well, to be fair, toothaches are no fun, especially if you have a fear of your teeth being worked on, and especially if the tooth gets infected. I don't think Paladin was very often ill, either, which also makes a difference.
Big sisters are good for a few things, LOL.

A lovely bit of comedy yet some drama. I like that it was Paladin's older sister who actually seemed to be able to rule it over him best. I don't think it matters to most families, not matter how their siblings succeed they are always just that; siblings. Nicely done!

Author Reply: And in hobbit families even more so, where being the oldest really puts one up in the pecking order. And my Primrose is quite a bit older than Paladin--since no DoB is given for those 3 older sisters, I have it that they were in their late teens before Paladin and Esmeralda came along.
