a wonderful yuletide story and a wonderful dedication to your mother. legolas reacted just as we picture him, more and more intense as time wore on. i was glad to see his father foresaw the problem and had the perfect solution - AND that he entrusted it to Gimli. nice job. monica

quote: Then Yule had hit--and he had stopped eating much, stopped sleeping, and decidedly stopped attending parties among his people, as he was becoming a wet blanket of amazingly focused proportions. I just LOVE that line! A wet blanket of amazingly focused proportions!?!? LOL! Such a lovely story! I really enjoyed it. I like seeing Leggy's Ada being loving toward him; so many of the fics I see have them 'at odds' and having a terse relationship. I haven't read any Canon that gives insight to how they truly are with each other, but I hope it's like your story! :)

This was such a lovely tale, with it's sweetness ofset by wry humor! It was a charming novelty that the same humor never let Legolas' sadness take the tone of angst. Very nice! TF

What a happy story! It reminds me of all the holidays when I was away from home, and people stepped in to make it happy. The time I was first away from my family for Passover, in Germany, and my (second) host mother managed to find me a box of matzo; the first time I made my grandmother's almond cookies; when my mother said that I should take the family menorah with me to college; the succession of friends who have come over for a Rosh Hashana dinner (and one who got special dispensation from his Christian Orthodox priest to break a fast to eat a rich dinner so that I wouldn't be alone on my holiday); the famed Christian Orthodox - Reform Jewish Ecumenical Vegan Lent-Passover Dinner, Pleasing To All Yet Offensive To None; the time I went to my dad's cousin's house for a Purim party and met a houseful of cousins I never knew I had; right up to the Hanukkah party I had a fortnight ago where I made latkes for six non-Jewish friends, and one friend from Singapore did the honors with the menorah. It is right and good that Thranduil should have sent along the Yule box, and I especially like that he was in cahoots with Gimli all the time. It just seems so like him. And it is certainly true that one could have everything in the world and still want one's Ada. Have you ever read Alex: The Life of a Child by Frank Deford? It's a heartwrenchingly sad book -- a biography of his daughter who died of cystic fibrosis at age eight in 1980 -- but there are a couple of really electrifying holiday scenes in it, including Alex's last Christmas, and the Christmas afterwards, which the family spent in Waikiki. I think you'd really enjoy that book.

Jasta, That was soooo lovely and sweet. Your Thranduil is so sweet and devoted to his tithen emlin, that I just want to eat him with a spoon. The contrast between fierce strong Elvenking and lovestruck Ada is wonderful. That letter, it was perfect. Thranduil said everything I would have ever wanted him to say to Legolas in the situation, and said it perfectly. :-) I also really enjoyed finally getting to see Legolas's missing siblings and naneth. All we need is Brethilas and Thranduil to make things complete. (And of course Saeros and his ilk will come to Valinor someday. They're just being stubborn). And I loved the idea of the re-housed woodelves getting their own land to party in to their hearts' content. I want to go (whine). Anyway, this story was just lovely and beautiful and touching. Sigh. And who would have foreseen Thranduil and Gimli conspiring together like that. Oh, I really enjoyed how Gimli kept calling Legolas "elfling". *snicker* And I will enjoy thinking about Legolas bringing Ereinion down a notch or two from time to time. He sounds delicious, but he needs a bit of baby brother-tormenting. Well, I could go on all night, but I won't. Needless to say, I REALLY liked this. It was just perfect. Thanks for writing and sharing with us. Rivergirl Author Reply: Hi Rivergirl! Thanks so much for your review! Eat Thranduil with a spoon.... oh my the images that conjures up.... :-) I wanna go to Legolas's new realm too, and party (almost) every night... though like Legolas, I think I'd get weary of it after a while and go seek the peace and quiet of Elrond's library! Ereinion being brought down a peg or two by baby brother.... hmmm... oh look, was that a plot bunny??? :-) I'm glad you liked it, and thanks so much for leaving a review!

Lovely story - thoroughly enjoyed it. What a thoughtful Thranduil. I love to imagine him in cahoots with Gimli. Author Reply: Thanks, Bodkin! I rather like the thought of them in cahoots (isn't that a GREAT word??) too, and may actually write up a brief little prequel to this so we can see the plotters in action. :-) We'll see.... Thanks again!
