Oh, this is so sad. I like it, though. He's right. When we're little, and dream of adventure, we don't think of what adventure can lead to. Wonderful!
God bless,
Galadriel

Hello Again,

Although maybe not the most important line in the whole little piece, I rather did like,

We wanted to escape the everyday.

Thanks for sharing.

Why Sam! That was very well written; very angst. I would have never guessed you had it in you! Then again, Frodo always said you were a little emotionally unstable... I'm just kidding. Well, I guess that I'll just leave you with a "Well done, Mr. Gamgee!" and be on my merry-way. Oh, and if you were wondering, this is from Pippin.

Author Reply: Why, Pippin! Hello, there! :) (can't believe you actually read this ... :P )
Thankies for the review ... yes, I have angst in my soul - lol, very unstable ;) Hurry up and write and post some stories! (please! :) ;) )

wow. i do love sam, and you capture him so well, here. what i admire even more is how you capture him in so few words. you capture his hope and his despair in the same breath. simple, straight to the point, and cutting to the heart of things. again, wow. well done.

Well, I think this is great! Poor Sam! Dreaming of doing great things and getting away from the mundane, everyday trivia of a life is one thing; actually doing it often results in unlooked for events! *Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it!* Boy, did he and Frodo ever "get it"! Wraiths, evil wizards, orcs, giant spiders, near unclimbable heights, and "the Eye" - I think there's something to be said for the peace and quiet of home! You did a great job of capturing Sam's disbelief ("Did we really do ALL of that, Mr. Frodo?") and an almost ironic regret (he's right - a lot of times those heroes you read about come home ON their shields, to the sound of the dirge). Good stuff, Samwisegirl! (Now, I'm off to read that other little tale you mentioned! :-)

This was a very enjoyable tale, angst notwithstanding. You've managed to capture Sam's POV on Mount Doom remarkably well. I could easily picture these thoughts going through his head - when we read adventure stories, we always tend to focus on the 'mountaintops'...not realizing that for every mountain, there is always at least one valley.

Well done!

Author Reply: Oh - wow! Thanks for the fantastic review! I'm glad you were able to picture Sam's thoughts so well.

This is a nice exploration of how Sam might have felt, finding out that stories are different in real life.
