Incredible story. You do Tolkien justice, but I'd rather stay with the version where the ringbearers do not die.

Author Reply: Come to think of it, so would I;);) But thanks bunches! I'm delighted you think I do Tolkien justice, praise can't get much higher than that:D ShimmeringWater is a very pretty name btw:):):):)

I was worried this would be sad at first, but I kinda like the idea - maybe cuz I wish Sam hadn't married Rosie anyways ;) . But all joking aside, I really liked this story and it made it a lot less sad when Frodo was able to visit them.

Author Reply: Why, thank you, Samwisegirl! Yes, it was a daring concept, which someone proposed on a message board, and I was hesitant to do anything with it at first. But the Muse insisted, and she won't be denied;) Glad I was able to pull it off!

Wonderful! I'm glad that it kept screaming at you til you wrote it. It is absolutely lovely.

I felt so sad for Elrond, having to leave his daughter. I think that he knows that it was meant to be -- for her, I mean, to marry a mortal.

Thanks for sharing this lovely story with all of us.

Author Reply: Trying to ignore a story or poem that demands to be written is like trying to ignore a cat meowing at the door. You can try but you KNOW you won't win, so what's the point?;)

Yes, poor Elrond--it must be so hard to be a parent sometimes!

Thanks so much, glad you like the story!

Ah, so there is another whom Mikala is intended to care for. A lovely epilogue indeed. Thank you for sharing your vision of the memorial.

Author Reply: I have no idea how this bit got poured into my head...it just came to me out of nowhere and I had to get over and write it all down in one burst.

Guess I mentioned before that I've been puzzled over the fact that LotR deals so much with the themes of forgiveness and mercy and yet redemption doesn't seem to come into play at all, as far as I can see. I don't even see very much of it in fanfics. Maybe I or the Muse just decided it was time to touch on it myself....

You're more than welcome and thank YOU for the thousandth time......

I've heard of divine inspiration, but this......

Lovely, and glad daughter and father are there that day to see the results of the dual work between sculptor and Divine Sculptor (who apparently did just a little rework to that of the Elf).

Author Reply: And maybe the Divine Sculptor's little emissary gave father and daughter a tiny push in the earthly sculptor's direction.....perhaps?:)

Ineffible love. I hope he finds the peace he needs. Perhaps Mikala is intended to care for him.

Author Reply: Can't say the idea didn't cross my mind, but the Muse had other plans for her, it seems....Yes, I did take quite a shine to Mikala and was not too happy that so much of her had to end up on the cutting-room floor. Might have known the little chatter-box would someday end up getting a little story of her own, lol....

And yes, I'll wager he did find his peace!

I've not seen this before, so had no idea you'd written it. But it seems you and I have a similar idea as to the desire for a memorial, and to the process of bringing it into being, although you are working mostly from the memories of the principals while I worked first from the memories of others, and even gave hints through the poor drawings of others, and finally Frodo's own drawings.

I like that the sculptor himself has griefs, and so understands what is true of those he deals with. Lovely story, and love how the clay feels warm in Legolas's hands.

Author Reply: Thank you! I wrote it nearly a year ago and it was first published on tolkienonline.com, but I've revised it a good deal since then. I've just started reading yours. Was a bit daunted by the length at first, and maybe just a bit by the fact that it's probably about 10000 times better than mine...lol...but I'm not letting that stop me anymore.

Thanks once more for reviewing, and am beyond thrilled that you like my efforts!
