A beautiful story with vivid descriptions. Appropriately titled.

Nicely shown how awful victory can look; the only thing that might look worse is defeat - but both are painful and awful and the memories of war only slowly fade. I like the use of star-fall as well - the bright leader of the elves falling had to be one of those signals that their time was drawing to a close. Nice job showing so much in just a few words.

Noldo! That was wonderful. Some much was said and woven into a short piece of writing is sometimes difficult, but you achieved it with ease. The language was so rich and evocative. Elrond's emotions when he could last tell of Gil-gilad's death were palpable. In short I really loved it! MM

Such a haunting look at the warriors return from 'victory?'; terrible loss and grief the only lasting memories. Even at that merely a battle won, not the war. Carnate forces defending the right to live in peace cannot utterly defeat incarnate forces of evil bent on conquest. To speak of those tragic events is to somehow fix them permanently in the mind. The demise of the last Elven kingdom in Middle earth one further sign of the waning of the time of the Elves.
