this was so much fun! And a great twist at the end. Never suspected Bethril of being invovled. Loved Mithrandir as the dragon. Good job.

I love the way you have started this story. At first I was nervous, with Brethil rushing in and not rambling, but I thought you would mention red-rimmed eyes if anything was wrong. So I am sitting back in the knowledge that you wouldn't do anything too mean to the three squirrels...I hope!
I LOVE Brethil's Giant Mouse image. Why do I get the feeling that, given his uncanny and unbiased love of all creatures (including the more...dark ones)that there is something more to this. I love the brief interlude of how Thranduil established a decree of protection on such a creature. The characterisations you have established are truly wonderful! And the interactions between parent and child (whether with Bronadui and Brethil or Thranduil and Legolas) are priceless!
Ok. Brethil and a dragon. Actually, Brethil, Tavor and Legolas and a dragon. This can't be good. But from the "sonorous voice" it just has to be Mithrandir. Who else would sit in a cave blowing smoke and survive in Thranduil's realm.
Galion the Gallant! HAH!!!!! I love it! I can just picture the poor elf's face! And I'm sure every time he complained of a dull life is running through his mind as he goes off to fight the dragon. And I wonder who gave him the armour! Tanglinna, you scoundrel! I loved the added touch of the sculpted helm "Dragon-Gutter". Poor poor Galion! Oh, and the trumpets were a nice touch, though I doubt Galion would have thought so.
HAHAHAHAHA! I was right! It was Mithrandir! Ok, that was great. Poor ol' Galion must feel a right twit now. It was so funny the way you had him march in, so determined and trying to bolster his own courage. And then to have him come out with the laughing Istar was fabulous! And to think that Brethil came up with the idea! Little Greenleaf's assumption that his friend was crying was quite touching, really, even if it was wrong. It was a great way to show his concern for his friend, and the depths to which their friendship has evolved. And, of course, Tavor's best line "I wasn't scared" matched so well to your other stories.
The final touch: Mithrandir and the Giant Mouse! I had just resolved myself to the fact that the Mouse was a thing imagined, and then you go throwing it in there. Great touch!
All the best,
Emma

Yes Brethil got to pull one over! I enjoyed this tale of the Dragon, although once Brenillas mentioned Mithrandir I knew he had to be behind the Dragon in the Forbidden Cave.

Oh my and sending Galion, the butler- this is after all our same beloved butler from The Hobbit is it not? He is all too fond of Dorwinion after all, and Thranduil is just how can I say it... well I will reduce myself to sounding like an adolescent, he is just the best! The little dragon with the scroll and the bottle of Dorwinion- huge smile plastered on my face...thank you!

But oh my, the best and sweetest, and for some reason somewhat poignant moment was the end, Brethil looking out to see and hear Mithrandir playing his flute and the giant mouse dancing.

Here's one for Brethil!

I like the fact that you don't always make Legolas the best at all these competitions and yet let him win often enough that we can see the skilled warrior who is yet to come.

The grown ups were wonderful to take Brethil's feelings into consideration in their treatment of the giant mouse. We see it from the kids' point of view, and they don't exactly say that the adults were humoring the Talkative One, but it's still clear to us. Nicely done.

How cool that Tavor is skeptical but Legolas is eager.

These three just kill me! They believe there might be a dragon in the cave, but what they are really concerned about is that their parents don't find out they disobeyed.

Oh! Oh! I know! It's Gandalf with fireworks, isn't it? Ha. I hope so. We'll see.

Also ha! to Tanglinna telling the king and queen to get a room. He has so much nerve.

You can really see where Legolas gets his tendency to play tricks. Thranduil is willing to do all this elaborate ceremonial stuff to carry his off.

Galion is actually very brave to go into the cave. He thought there really was a dragon there, after all.
