Oh, how dear a moment caught, and the foreshadowing that he will follow the gulls and find the blessing that must accompany the loss which is freely given.

So glad you posted this.

Author Reply: Thanks Larner. I really appreciate your comments, because I wasn't sure about this one... But reading your comment, I think maybe it came out well after all. I'm very glad you enjoyed it!

Blessings,
Eruanna

And is it the Elves or two lost Hobbits who sing this hymn, I find myself wondering.

I'd use "islands" rather than "isles" in the last line, but that's just me.

Author Reply: It could be either, really. Looking back on this, I suppose there is something rather Frodo-like about it, perhaps. :) But really, when is Frodo *not* involved, with me? ;)

Also thanks for the constructive crit! I'll have to think about that one...

Blessings,
Eruanna

The reasoning of a heart wounded by rejection, making rationalizations she will soon wonder at.

Author Reply: Oh yes. We do tend to think rather strangely when we are in dark moods. Thankfully, she'll soon be brought out into the light again...

You had to do it--make me cry. No, I, too, wasn't surprised to learn one finger was missing from that hand. And I can certainly see Frodo coming to a place he once loved to counsel the one he loved as a daughter himself.

Author Reply: I didn't mean to make you cry, I promise! Though I hope at least they were good tears, and touched by no bitterness, as Tolkien would say. I'm glad you enjoyed this, and thank you for the lovely comment!

Eruanna

Very lovely and poetic and wistful, sounds very Frodo, somehow. Strange, when I read this I'd already had a similar idea for a poem in my head, although I wasn't sure yet whose pov it would be from. Maybe it will come out sooner or later, who knows! Can't rush an egg into hatching though, can we?;)

Good to see a little something more from you!

Author Reply: Thanks! You know, we seem to think along the same lines fairly often. ;) And that's a good thing. I would love to see your poem!

Unfortunately, I don't know if there will be much from me in the near future: my muse is really dried up these days. But we shall see... Thanks for all your support and encouragement!

Hugs and blessings,
Eruanna

A beautiful version of the Rohirric lay. Beautifully written and true to its genre.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you think it came off well!

oh me oh my......that is some wonderfully wicked word-wielding! Vivid verbal virtuosity! Brilliant!

Pssst--I haven't fallen off the face of the earth either...yet...my music muse has got me by the hair of the head, that's all...she WON'T let up! I haven't had much time for reading or writing lately BUT it's good to see you back once more!!!

Author Reply: Thank you dear! And that's some wonderfully wicked alliteration you've got going there. ;)

I know what you mean about the muses. Lately, my muse has been more stuck in the Star Wars universe (horrors, right?), but reading Beowulf can be very inspiring. :) Hopefully this will jump-start my LOTR muse again...

Thank you again for the lovely comment!

I haven't read that type of poetry since high school, in English Literature class, and it brought back memories, as well as being worthy of the tale it tells.
Wonderfully done!!!

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm glad I could bring up some (hopefully) good memories!

I love this! It reads beautifully in the Rohirric style (or at least how I imagine it), and reminds me of some of JRRT's unfinished tales & HOME work. You really captured the spirit of those moments. Thanks for writing it!!

Author Reply: Wow, thank you! I just love the HoME, especially 'Sauron Defeated,' and I suppose this was inspired by the scenes with Frodo and Sam in Meduseld, where the lay is sung again. Unfortunately, that didn't make it into the final version of ROTK, but it's still a beautiful scene. I'm very glad you like this poem!
