What a gently moving take on Eldarion's choice. It would be hard for someone who had been so closely associated with elves to endure the memory after they departed. Is he in Ithilien? ~TF

Author Reply: Yes he is in Ithilien where I suspect he spent many a happy time when he was younger ( and Legolas was still there). Both he and the memory of the elves are fading so I thought it a good place for him to go to make his final choice.

I was surprised to see a drabble from you! Drabbles are a great way to get the creative juices flowing and they’re definitely more difficult than they look.

This one is so beautiful. There’s a lovely lyricism to your descriptions. The soft sounds of the first line just beg to be read aloud. The sorrow of the trees at the absence of the elves as well as Eldarion’s own melancholy mood come across perfectly. I love the thought that the trees still remember the elves and that Eldarion can feel this, and his weariness of this world and readiness to move onto the next is a very bittersweet moment. You’ve conveyed so much in such a short piece. It’s just lovely. :-)

Author Reply: I was surprised that I actually wrote one! I am not particularly fond of this form, but my muses are otherwise engaged at present and so I thought I would try my hand at one. ( I have written only one other, but it is not suitable for SOA).

Indeed it was difficult to write, but I rather enjoyed the challenge. I am pleased you found it to your liking, I certainly value your opinion, as always.

The wonderful thing about drabbles in my opinion is that they inspire plot bunnies if they are really good. This one certainly does that. Eldarion in the forest bereft of elves and realizing he is ready to give up his life is really quite an image and you portrayed it powerfully here in such a short space. Good job.

Author Reply: Thanks, I am pleased you enjoyed this drabble and yes I think it may have generated a plot bunny or two.
