Ah--to meet THAT ghostie! Poor little Pippin--I'd throw my ball toward the green, also.

Played one full nine-hole game of golf--NEVER again! Not for me, chasing balls of gutta percha!

Author Reply: LOL, me, too! Well, I've made the attempt at 19 holes of golf only once in my life, and that was when I was stationed in Norfolk, VA. I don't recall if they had a "19th Hole" because our group bailed after the 15th hole, lol. It was getting close to 4 o'clock in the afternoon and we were only on the 15th hole! We were all in good physical shape and we were *beat*! I had visions of my ball sailing high in the air -- much like Frodo and Merry's. NOT. Mine looked more like a jackrabbit bouncing all over the ground. :-P

In this tale Pippin is a young teenager; he holds to his honour as much as he possibly can -- until face to face with a ghost, lol.

Thank you so much for reading!

Great story, Pippinfan!
It's always funny to read about hobbits playing golf! Maybe you read GamgeeFest's stories about the same subject, featuring Legolas' first encounter with golf.

I liked the ghost of Bandobras "Bullroarer" Took!
The best part of playing golf is certainly the 19th hole ;-)

Thank you!

Author Reply: Until yesterday I didn't know about GamgeeFest's tale - I was talking to another friend of mine earlier on Saturday and she had mentioned it, too! Since I've had two excellent recommendations all in one day, I'm going to search it out and read it, lol.

When I first wrote this tale, I thought the "19th Hole" was solely located on the golf course at the Defense Supply Center in Columbus (besides that of my own tale, lol), alas, I've since been corrected -- many times, lol. Apparently, it's a common name at a host of golf courses. I've played only one game of golf in my entire life and unlikely to ever play again. :-P

As for Bandobras, he's an anomoly of sorts. A dear friend gave me a nudge to post this story, and when I was combing it over for any last minute tweakage, I remembered that the Professor has Bandobras taking his family and moving to the Northfarthing. I asked this friend how the heck I got away with putting him in the Tooklands, because I have no idea now where my headspace was while I wrote the story (its been over 2 years). With her response in mind, I had Pippin see the condition of Bandobras' gravestone and mutter "I'll wager you wish you had been buried with your people up north..." or something like that for some sort of explanation.

Thanks for reading!

Bravo! A joy to read when it was on the Challenge site and a joy to read now :-)

It cheered a cloudy day - well done, PippinFan!

Author Reply: I'm glad it cheered you - to read it a second time! :-) You're sweet; you already read it, lol. I have some reading to catch up on from this past week. I'll tell you about it later. Thanks again for reading!
