awww how sweet~ =)

“A similar thing happened with your cousin,” the wizard continued. “The Shadow was driven away not only because of the stars’ presence, but because of your desire to bring comfort to Merry. That you were quite capable of looking after him, wounded as you are, no doubt helped your cousin to see that, perhaps, you would be well again.” Gandalf smiled, his eyes twinkling. “His hope increased, and Merry soon grew determined to be free of the Shadow, allowing the stars to chase it away.”

I like the function of the stars very much--i think i need to read the prequel to understand more. But indeed, they will shine on our precioussss hobbits all the time whenever they're in need.
Because they're all Love. :)

I always adore your Gandalf and Pippin dialogues and this last chapter was wonderful to read.

Wonderful story, Jen--thank you for giving me another nudge in here since i *did* intend to come in here fro while--(since our Narnia meeting ;)

Author Reply: I hope you understand the function of the stars now that you've read "Stars and Sniffles"...there is another in this "trilogy" but it doesn't deal with the stars, it just takes place within this 'verse and uses some of the details in this story (like the eagles) in it. :)

Thank you for taking the time to read it, dear...I know I've pestered you about it LOL. Your reviews are lovely and I really do appreciate them - all of them! - and thank you also for reccing it. It really means a lot. But most of all I'm glad you enjoyed it. *hugs*

What an ending! I'm very busy now, biting my lip so I don't start do cry in the middle of several fellow-students.

The picture of the stars twinkling and shining extra bright for Pippin is just adorable. I wonder if there are stars up there for all of us - or why would Gandalf have chosen exactly the two of them? Couldn't it be that they were Pippin's from the very begining and only through Gandalf was their purpose made clear for the hobbits? Yes, I definitely like the idea.

“When did you plan on saying something, Meriadoc?” the wizard demanded, his voice stern. “Or did you intend to suffer in silence?”
Suffering in silence must be a Brandybuck trait. Merry reminds me very much of Frodo here. Suffer in silence and don't let anybody know how bad you really are - they could worry!

I'm so glad you led me here!

I think you're exactly right about the nature of the stars. They are definitely Pippin's. Pippin first met them in "Stars and Sniffles," and they have been *his* stars ever since, and likely before, those events. Gandalf is the kindler of light and I used that as the basis of his ability to connect Pippin with his own pair of stars. But of course they only make an actual appearance on earth when there is a dire need for them. Otherwise, they are meant to comfort and reassure Pippin from afar - and certainly they do not go away when Gandalf leaves Middle-earth. They are there to stay.

I agree with you, also, about Merry. He is stubborn and would rather look after his cousins and friends than himself. That is why he needs Pippin to look after him

I'm very happy that you liked this story, Lily. Thank you so much for reading it and for your feedback.

Wonderful tale! The idea of Gandalf giving Pippin stars is marvelous--I bet they're watching over his family in the Shire as well. I loved the imagery during Pip's confused wanderings...the mist, and the mountain toppling onto him. That was so vivid and startling and dreamlike! I always enjoy your stories (maybe 'cause I'm pip-obsessed too?)...I definitely plan on reading more of them now. ;-)

Author Reply: Thank you so much! What lovely comments! I'm so glad you like the stars, and I agree that they're definitely watching over the Tooks back home :) And thank you for saying that you enjoyed the imagery, that makes me very happy :)

Heehee. Pip-obsessed is a great way of describing it!

That was very sweet! I loved the way you used the Star to guide Pippin back to his friends and then to help Merry. Gandalf and Pippin coming to the conclusion that the stars worked because they, Merry and Pippin all were able to put their faith in one another. Splendid! I liked the very end the best with Gandalf coming in a Pippin so pleased that he was able to find his stars in the sky so quickly. Very sweet!

Author Reply: Thanks very much, Hai! I'm so glad you enjoyed this story; it was such fun to write. I'm glad you liked the bit of Merry-healing, too, I thought it was time for him to have some hurt/comfort for a change! :)

Oh, hon, this is just the sweetest ending I could think of! What a brilliant job you've done with this story; it is absolute perfection. Thank you so much for this gift of stars. I'll never forget it. :-)

Author Reply: Thanks for all your wonderful support and comments along the way, Pips! It means a lot! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this story. Thank you! :)

This is such a lovely story. Pippin was such a clever lad, to think that his stars might heal Merry, when he was feeling so poorly himself. And it's such a beautiful image, to think that those stars are watching over Pippin all the time, and will always be there when he needs guidance.

:D

Author Reply: Pippin is most clever when he needs to help someone, I think. I'm so happy that you liked the stars, and the story! Thanks, Meesh! :)

This is a very lovely piece, loved it !

Its kind of a lovely thought that when things go dark, that the stars will lead you home again to those who love you.
Pippin knows his stars helped merry face the darkness that thought to overwhelm him,as they helped him find his way back to himself.
I love the sequence with Gandalf...Very nice...

Great job....
