A Merry War  by Elendiari22 10 Review(s)

Just hopping back since I wasn't able to review this when I read it. I thought Boromir's reluctance to get involved and his confusion over the whole thing was very well done. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up getting involved in some capacity before the war's over though...

I can easily see Legolas trying to be the voice of reason while Aragorn plans some outrageous retaliation. And then mild mannered Frodo...who's side is he on, anyway?? Oooo, things are getting tense in Rivendel. Poor Boromir must wonder what sort of a looney bin he's stumbled into! ~TF

Author Reply: Can you just imagine being Boromir, coming to Rivendell on a serious mission, and becoming involved in a prank war with the future King of Gondor? It'll be a learning experience, no doubt. I can just see the journal entry: "Met Aragorn son of Arathorn today. He was filling hobbits' tea with hot spices..." Lol!

Frodo is going to be the middle man, I think. And Legolas is going to be the voice of reason for right now. AH, sweet war. :)

I absolutely adore this, and Frodo seems to be edging himself into the middle, he better beware of crossfire... but thats my own opinion... love to see more soon

may Eru bless your muses

Frodo is going to be the middle man in this, I think. Hee! :)

Author Reply: I'm waiting for the twins to introduce themselves. I think things will have to get a little more out of hand before they join the fun.

But you're right, they will bring about an apocolypse. :) Rivendell will never be the same! Bwahaha!

I love seeing this side of the ranger. Hmmm something that won't hurt the hobbits. I guess that leaves out any small bolrogs, or dragons, I did like the idea of itching powder in their small clothes.

Author Reply: Cheeky!Aragorn is fun to write. I have a good time doing it.

Itching powder comes from the book "Matilda". I think it's a bit too cruel to use, but that's just me. :)

HaHaHa! This is excellent! I love your prank war. You have the Hobits in character perfectly. I am a little surprised by Aragorn, but we don't get to see the real ranger much. I always thought there was a mischief streak to him.

As for ideas, things like bowls of flour or water proped on open doors comes to mind, but that usually backfires when the wrong person opens the door. Perhaps substituting something for pipeweed? I am sure a ranger would know of something harmless but interesting. I don't know. I wish you luck.

Oh, just wanted to tell you I have been reading my husband your little chapters while he gets ready for work. He throughly enjoys them. He asked me last night if a new chapter had been posted. Most of the time he teases me about my fanfiction addiction, but he likes your story.

Thank you for sharing you gift.

Robin

Author Reply: Bowls of water and flour, eh? I'm getting memories of Dennis the Menace. :) That just might work, thanks!

Wow, I'm flattered that you're reading this to your husband, and that he likes it! I've got a new chapter up now, so I hope you both continue to enjoy this fic!

Oh my! Frodo really must have scared his cousins to death! But it was well done, I'm impressed :)

“Just thought I’d give them a warning, Boromir. I saw Aragorn preparing something that cannot be good." He knows it? Well, then I'm sure it will not hurt them overmuch ;-)

BTW: Jack Sparrow in ME, I would like that crossover, too!

Author Reply: I'm glad you like it! Frodo can be completely evil, to my mind, when he wants to be. :)

Crossovers can be such fun. I wrote a drabble once where Pippin met Sparrow in a pub in Minas Tirith. I'll have to see if I can find it!

So Aragorn is getting carried away, is he?

I would think a very good method of torturing the hobbits is to do nothing at all - except grin at them knowingly each time he sees them. They would be on the edge of their chairs awaiting the next round, while the whole torment is in the absence of action.

And it's very hard to get back at someone who is patently not doing anything to you!

I love Frodo winding up his cousins. As long as the war doesn't spread, he might find it to be just the tonic he needs.

Author Reply: Ooh, that's a good idea! Suspense and trauma in the form of a smile. Thanks!

Frodo needs the amusement, and you're right, this might be just the thing for him.

To quote everyone's favourite pirate..."No...Not good...Not good!!" ROTFLOL!!! Poor Merry and Pip. Frodo really put the fear of death into them if they left roast turkey on the table. :oD And Aragorn watching it all and grinning...This is going to be good. I can't wait!!

Post the next chapter soon!!

Author Reply: Oh, my gosh can you *see* Jack Sparrow in Middle Earth?! That would be the cross over of the century!

The lads will definitely be regretting that roast turkey after an hour or so. They'll have to go beg leftovers off the kitchen staff. :)

The next will be coming shortly!

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 4 on 6/22/2005
Why do I get the distinct feeling Frodo is enjoying Aragorn's responses thoroughly? Alas, the lads to appear to have let themselves in for it in a BIG way.

Author Reply: They're definitely in for it. Big time. ;)
