This was beautiful, and the ending was heartbreaking.

Oh, the visions joyous and sorrowful of the Swan Havens, especially for one of the Teleri you reveal with such clarity and poignancy. The thought that two of her children were conceived at within sound of the sea is delightful, but the echoing halls and empty rooms of their great house, a grief.

Ever would the memories by bitter for those whose kin were slain during the Time of Darkness. That her own children still lived in the aftermath of the Kinslaying, they were yet lost to her.

Even though built anew, the old beauty is forever departed, the blissful peace of Aman never to be fully restored.

Yes, dear Ellie, I had tears in my eyes at the last line. ‘But he returns alone.’

Author Reply: Sorry this is so late. Every time I sit down to write review replies, someone comes looking for me. This time is no exception, so I have to be quick.

I haven't read anything else dealing with this issue in Earwen's life and being Telerin, she would have seen it all in relation to the sea. I am fascinated by the concept of the "mortality" of the immortals of late.

Thank you for reading and reviewing! I'm glad you liked it!

Beautiful. I loved the mariner and his wife mentioned at the beginning - reminded me very poignantly of a certain human mariner and *his* wife, with almost the same issues.

Your description of the ocean and the shore made it so real, even to someone like me who is landlocked and barely remembers the ocean from a childhood visit. The thing that struck me most was the previous nights storm washing up the shells on the beach - for some reason that fits so perfectly with the whole Noldorin predicament. Wonderful writing!

For Earwen, I felt everything would have been seen in terms of the ocean and the ever-present ocean breeze.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Very poignant and well written. I don't think I have ever read anything from Eärwen's POV on the loss of her children. I liked the premise.

Author Reply: I've not seen anything else about Earwen and her thoughts on her husband being away and her loss either. It must have been very hard for her to reconcile all that happened involving her family and her husband's family.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing!
