Drabbles, Vignettes and Such  by Gandalfs apprentice 6 Review(s)

Marvelous bit of fleshing out the characters and relationships. We really know so little about the twins. So nice to see a bit more.

Author Reply: I wrote this in part to establish the twins as characters in my own head (like everyone else, I was having trouble telling them apart!).

This was really fun. I enjoyed the warm interaction between Elladan and Estel.

Author Reply: Hey, there--nice to hear from you. I wrote this, among other reasons, to establish more of a relationship between the twins and Estel. G.A.

Poor Glorfindel he does seem to have problems with his horse being swiped. At least in the book he got to ride it. I do like Estel's reason for taking that horse. Plus he was smart enough to take good food with him.
Elladan did make a mistake making a promise he could not keep. Poor Estel first no dwarves and then no hunting orcs. Just wait till Gilrean hears about the hunting orcs.

Author Reply: Poor Glorfindel indeed. Probably everyone in Middle-earth will have swiped that horse before all we fanfic writers are through.

Of course, you might object that if Asfaloth is a normal horse, he couldn't possibly have been around as early as when Aragorn was 11 years old and still alive 76 years later. But Tolkien says he was an Elf-horse, so I figure that he must live a long time.

These are wonderful punishments for both of them. Poor Elladan! Having to deal with both Aragorn AND Gilraen is quite the experience! Heh!

Author Reply: I can't see Gilraen letting him off lightly. He really messed up pretty badly, if you go by what he himself admits. No wonder the kid ran away. Even Elves make mistakes!

I love it. Obstinate Estel - Elladan (at about 3000) in similar trouble. Glorfindel tapping his toe. The penalty of having to explain to Gilraen.

And, perhaps most of all, the ancient story of youthful moodiness that will live with Elladan until Arda ends.

Such a beautifully constructed story with such delicious characterisations. Lovely.

Author Reply: Thanks, Bodkin! Some day I'll find out just why Elladan was in that tree...

What a delight! I have no doubt that the coming of Estel to Imladris brought more new experiences to the Elves there than they had faced in many a year.

His look of resignation combined with his hunger for experience touched Elladan's heart.

What a wonderful scene between these two brothers.

Author Reply: Hi, shirebound

Yes, frankly, I wonder sometimes if it wasn't a bit of a bore to be an Elf. And how difficult and frustrating for a boy to be in Estel's position! So many limitations and secrets, with no explanation.

Thanks for reading.
