*SOB* Oh Saoirse, that was breathtaking and heartbreaking. I felt like I was there and that I could *feel* Pippin's emotions and thoughts. And the battle hadn't even started. The last lines got me especially. 'For you, Frodo... Merry, go home, go home and do not let this touch them. Go home, again. I am going to die. It is my duty. Remember me.'

Sad, the fear we bring to battle. And to make the fear the foreshadowing of the troll which does crush him in the end.... Author Reply: Thank you so much for reading, Larner. Ah, yes, poor Pippin's battle with the looming death is far from over, let alone begun. Thanks again for your comment! :)

Beautiful and terrible--felt like I was right there. You've captured a soldier's feelings confronting certain death with a breathtaking and piercing clarity that is almost uncanny....brrrr!!! Author Reply: O, my! What incredibly kind things to say! Thank you, thank you! I'm so glad that you enjoyed reading this so much, and thank you for reading! :)

I held my breath through this one. The more confused and frightened Pippin's thoughts became, the more intense everything felt. It was like a battle was taking place within Pippin before the great battle at the Black Gate ever began. This was so discriptive and so intense. It felt very real and in the end when Pippin is silently hoping that Merry will go home and remember him my eyes teared up. So very well done. It is good to have you back. Author Reply: Thank you so much, GW! I'm so glad it felt real. I always think Pippin must have been so utterly beside himself at that point, realizing this is what it's all come to -- he's alone, about to fight in the grandest battle of all time, hundreds of hundreds of miles from home, scared out of his bloody wits -- *and* he will most likely never see anyone he loves ever again, he realizes that this is truely the *end*, if not for everything, for he himself. I'm so happy to be back :) It seemed only fitting that Pippin's last thoughts before the charge would be of home and of Merry, and since he's grown up so much: for Merry to protect them all, and let them have their joy, the happiness he will never again be able to enjoy, that he is sacrificing himself for. I hope to see more written from you as well -- and soon! :)

In an entirely good way, if that makes any sense, this really cut my guts out. Pippin still has that little bit of faith and hope, that at least Merry is alive, and he'll go home and protect the Shire: '...Merry, go home, go home and do not let this touch them. Go home, again.' Ow. I cried a little for poor Pippin here: He was so small and afraid, one small hobbit making a stand at the end of everything good-at least Frodo and Sam had each other at the End of All Things:*{ And now I need some kleenex again. Author Reply: Aww! Sorry about the tears! But thank you so much! Whenever I learn someone has felt such emotion when reading something I've written it touches me so, because then I know I've done it justice, if not done it well. But thank you so much for the very kind compliments! Pippin is strong and although he felt alone the love he had for his cousins kept him steady in the face of danger, and death even. It must have been so hard for him, all by himself there, as you say, but at least his devotion to his friends was a strengthening companion, if still a lonely one. Thank you so much for reading, Citrine! :)

Wow! Powerful, yet fear full words. But duty can hold us beyond fear and words. Author Reply: Thank you! I am so glad that you enjoyed reading it, Harrowcat :) Duty is one thing that keeps the quivering heart in place, as you say, and it is good that Pippin felt such duty and devotion to those he loved, so in a way, he was not alone standing there, after all. Thank you so much for reading!

I am absolutely flabbergasted! That was a wonderful "peek" inside Pippin's head. "Remember me." That made me cry. The whole thing did. That was lovely. Thank you. Author Reply: Thank *you* for your lovely comments! How kind of you to say such things! Thank you so much for just reading, nevermind reviewing too! :)
