Unlikely Comfort  by shirebound 11 Review(s)

This was a nice story -- a good look at how the remaining members of the Fellowship might have come together in such a difficult time, and how sharing with others can also help yourself. Also how playful innocence can lighten the heart even in difficult situations.

Enjoyed, thanks for writing!

Author Reply: Thank you. I love stories about the Fellowship forming, or bonding, or that show how each member has unique ways they're of great value to the Company.

I had forgotten this one Shirebound. It is great although Pippin definitely needs to be a bit more careful about what he puts in his mouth! I have always loved the discovery of the mithril coat in the book and this compliments it very nicely. And I adored the ending - well all of it really!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! It was thrilling to write "a real story" of my own, after reading so many wonderful ones by others. (I need to re-read this one, myself! It's been a long time.)

:D

Ah yes! This is the one I was trying to find! Marvellous, marvellous! And I really love the ending! I'm not nearly to the bottom of the fanfic library on your page, and I'm very glad since that means I've got a long time to read and enjoy! :-) God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: You sweetie! I'd better hustle and write more stories so we never run out.

*sigh* I do love hobbits.

I love Pippin, even he is an irrepressible scamp! :) And those moments with Gimli...he's another character with depths that need exploring! So sad still...my computer is rusting! (Is that possible? :o ...) I can't remember many stories that have kept me teary-eyed chapter after chapter. You are definitely succeeding in conveying the emotion of these hours after a dear friend's death.

Author Reply: Oh dear... if you love Pippin too, I have a *lot* of stories to recommend! Just let me know when you run out...

Thank you so much for your lovely reviews. What a pleasure to hear from you.

You know, elves aren't as lucky and well-off as we think. Imagine being blessed with immortal, perfect memories. No wonder some would fade from grief, when no relief or easing could be found. Another well-written entry, and bless Sam's heart!

THANK YOU so much for recommending this story! I'm in the process of reading it now, but just had to comment on this first chapter. I remember before I ever became immersed in LOTR, the first time I saw "Fellowship..", I cried when we got the first glimpse of Frodo's face after Gandalf's fall, outside Moria, as he turned to look at Aragorn when he was called. The look of utter devastation on that innocent face just tore me up, and I remembered the very first time we saw him meeting Gandalf in the Shire (he jumps into the cart to hug him). You've caught his mood exceptionally well here....his silence, his shock, the replaying of Gandalf's fall in his thoughts, the haze over his mind and eyes...very affecting. Legolas is proving to be very sensitive about how Frodo is feeling. I love the way he has put his own grieving aside for the moment - because elves have all the time in the world, *sniff* and the whole part with Legolas taking care of Frodo (somehow I don't think it is just to build trust). It felt like maybe the elf took some comfort for himself by offering comfort. *sniff sniff* So sad...I must move on before my computer shorts out from all this emotion! (BTW, this is so good I just may have to comment on every entry...I hope you don't mind! :)

Author Reply: Wow, I'm glad I recommended this one, too! I'm so happy you're enjoying it so much!

:-) Let me guess...after Frodo, you're a Legolas person (mind you, I *didn't* say 'Orlie'!)? At least, that's what I think I'm getting from your stories. I do like the cuddly-fluff, too. This is getting good...

Author Reply: I love the *whole* Fellowship! I think that, by the end, you'll see that I'm a "Pippinfan" too!

a great story so far, but i think pippin miss-counted...he forgot the warg attack just before Moria (page 392 in my copy, the ring goes south). oh well, the poor little hobbit has been through so much i think i'll let him off. lol. anyway, can't wait to read the next chapter, it's a fab story so far!

Author Reply: Glad you're enjoying it! (And I take full responsibility for Pippin's mis-count. My goodness, those hobbits really *did* go through a lot!)

Hi Shirebound,

Even though this is shorter than most other stories - it has fast become one of my favourite - love every chapter of it and sorry I haven't reviewed it before now.

There were some really fun stuff in it as well as angst and fluffy stuff - just the right amount of every mixed together to make a great story.

I really admire your work tremendously.

Author Reply: Thanks, Jules! Maybe we should coin a new genre -- "angstfluff" -- for this strange mixture that I tend to write! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story -- I had a wonderful time writing it.
