Ephemeros  by Tinnuial 4 Review(s)

There is little room for innocence in the situation in which these find themselves.

Author Reply: With regards to your review of Chapter One:
Point taken. Personally, I felt that characterisations of the twins did turn out a tad less mature than I envisioned them. But I figured even princes and sons of great lords have their lighthearted moments, grown or not. The reunion of old friends is occasion enough for merriment surely. I suppose to be entirely faithful to canon, the "old friends" bit would require an AU tag too since Tolkien never spoke of such a friendship. Then again, I never claimed this to be anything other than Fan Fiction, which surely allows for some liberties; liberties that I am most certainly not the first to take.

According to the Appendices, the twins were born in year 130 of the Third Age, making them about two centuries shy of three thousand. A birthdate for Legolas was never given, but I have chosen to follow Michael Martinez and Ellen Brundige's lead where his age is concerned. Both have written rather fascinating analyses of Legolas and both have come to the conclusion that he can't be much more than 700 or 800 years old at most, possibly closer to 500. I think I read somewhere that elves come of age around 50 but are not considered full-grown till a few centuries afer. 5-700 would make him rather young for an elf now wouldn't it, though certainly older than any of his companions in the fellowship. However, it really is relative. Pippin is older than Eomer, but Pippin is still considered a "tween" where Eomer is Marshal of the Riddermark. I am no Tolkien scholar. I am merely playing with characters and stories to which I am entitled an interpretation, just as you are entitled to yours.

As for the review for Chapter 2, perhaps when I have the leisure to revise my work, I shall have to re-emphasize that Elrond is mourning his children's loss of innocence, as any parent would, no matter how old his children are.

Thank you for your review. It will help shape the story now, should I find the inspiration to continue it.
