Through your telling Merry and Pippin are at their best in this imaginative, suspenseful, adventure story. They rely charmingly on their inate playfulness to cope with the frightening events following one after another during their uneasy night and day, eximplified by Pippin grabbing a handful of Merry's toes and Merry commenting that the three breakfasts followed by a nap and another breakfast Pippin claims his starving belly craves are nothing unusual for his cousin's insatiable appetite. Cute, yes, but never cloyingly so. They knew when to act, solve problems in the erie turmoil and concentrate on survival. No dithering, or irrelevent silliness, they quickly, logically and bravely faced the dangers that came upon them. I found a couple passages especially touching. Merry and Pippin automatically had no thoughts of vengence toward the men who attacked them. Compassionately, they both hoped the men survived the second flood. Then, Loving Frodo, they were thankful he hadn't been their to face what to them were the worst of perils. Inocently, they couldn't imagine how much worse were the evils and hardships Frodo and Sam were enduring. Not slightly, but very Tookish you are and we readers are lucky for it. Author Reply: Wow. Thank you so much! I've never recieved a review like yours before, and I hardly know what to say! I really appreciate, not only your kind words, but your thoroughness, if that makes sense. I'm so happy that you enjoyed the early, playful bit of this story. I'm quite a fan of fluff and cute hobbits myself, and I do write that, but I knew it would be out of place in a story like this one. I wanted to depict Merry and Pippin as clever and brave and very capable of defending themselves and each other - a logical prelude to the leaders of the Scouring of the Shire :) I'm honored that you were touched by those two aspects of the story, as they were very important to me to emphasize. It's not very hobbity to be cruel and vengeful, and it's certainly not an aspect we ever see in Merry and Pippin, and so I wanted to show their innate compassion. As for the bit about Frodo, I like how you interpreted it! That was not actually my intent when I wrote it; I was actually alluding to the drowning of Frodo's parents, and I thought that Merry and Pippin would have been glad that Frodo had not experienced their near-drowning. But of course, your interpretation makes so much sense, and I wish I'd thought of it first! ;) Thank you so much for leaving such wonderful feedback, estelnalissi. I'm so grateful! :)

I finally got to read this little treat! Dear, curagous Merry! And Pippin was so very brave too! *hugs hobbits* Great gap-filler! Dangerous and yet the hobbits never lose their sense of humour! :) Author Reply: Thank you, Lily! I enjoyed getting to show the hobbits as brave and quick-thinking and able to look after themselves and each other. I'm glad you liked it! :)
