If I had a Hammer  by Grey Wonderer 16 Review(s)

You have a gift for spreading happiness. I'm so glad to have crossed your path. My grin stays in place long after I've finished a chapter and moved on to other activities.

You've added a new line to my Hobbity quotes hall of fame. "This place needs bigger bowls!" Tolkien's giving you a wink, I know it.

And I can't forget Poor Hobbit Pie. I thought you made that up and it was a perfect addition to our consensus on the Hobbit menu, right up there with mushrooms, sausages, apples, seed cakes and taters. Your story of the pie's counterpart on mother earth was touching. Will you give us the recipe by story's end? Or invite recipes from your readers? Wouldn't it be nice if we could all gather for a Poor Hobbit Pie bake off, gossip and all purpose feast and pleasantry?

Finally, go ahead and kick me, but the longer the baker ran on, the more I laughed. More gossip came out of his mouth that day than baked goods from his ovens.

Author Reply: "A gift for spreading happiness? That is one of the nicest things that anyone has ever said to me in a review. Thank you!

I do think that hobbits always wish for bigger bowls. LOL Glad to see that you agree.

As to the pie recipe, I am not sure that there is an exact one for this. It was made from left-over ingrediants. We usually got it along with pies of another flavor because whatever eggs, milk, vanilla, etc were left after the other baking became pie man's pies or poor hobbit's pies. I am going to try to get a working recipe for it from my grandmother who has many things that she just makes by putting in ingrediants until it seems right. LOL I cannot bake that way but she can. She's been making the items for so long that she doesn't need to measure any more!

Oh, don't worry about laughing during the baker's gab-fest. I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER kick my reviewers. Besides, I enjoy making people laugh so I won't complain.

Well, that was certainly another twist in the tale! :D

Author Reply: Yes, for some reason this one just keeps twisting on me. It really wasn't supposed to be this long. LOL

Mmmm. Poor hobbit's pies sounds good... I can see you're really enjoying writing the Gaffer--I'm enjoying reading him. You're doing fantastic. :-)

Oh, I just want to hug Pippin...bless his little heart. Merry's going to have to stand in line to get his hobbit hands on Tunnelly, Grrrr.

Author Reply: I love those pies! I wish I had one right now. The Gaffer is such fun to write for some reason. Glad you like him too. I do believe that there will be a line of folks waiting to get to Tunnely now. Thanks for the review and I will see you soon!

That stupid baker! Some people just can't keep their mouths shut! But, then, that's an epidemic with hobbits, isn't it? Free cobbler for Frodo - lol, just the sort of recognition Frodo didn't want. He got carried away and he's a bit mad at himself for doing so, but I'm with Willow. That was a good show! Cobbler all around!

Author Reply: The hobbits do like their gossip and rumor don't they. Frodo thought he had the problem well in hand by telling the Gaffer not to say anything and having Pip at Bag End, but naturally, Pippin wasn't where he was supposed to be. LOL
At least the Gaffer got more cobbler thanks to Frodo! Thanks for the review!

Aaaaawww....poor Pip.

Of course, I knew that was going to happen, but still...

Update soon, GW.

Author Reply: I'm goig to try. I simply must find a way to quit work. LOL Thank you for the lovely reviews and there will be more before long.

'Never question free cobbler, lad.' Words of wisdom for all of us! Loved that, and Frodo's embarrassment at the admiration of the lasses, and Hamfast's gentle teasing about his flashing eyes! *snert*

Poor Pip - I hope he doesn't do something silly (this is Pip we're talking about!) now he knows that Mr Tunnelly has given up on him. Glad he didn't buy any pain - Pippin and unsupervised painting sounds like an utter disaster to me.

Eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

Author Reply: I sort of split this chapter between the humor at The Ivy Bush and Pippin's problems. I really am having fun with Hamfast in this story so it is good to know that you are enjoying him also.
I am certain that Pip will have some sort of reaction to all of this but the next chapter is still in the works and so I am not completely sure what that reaction will be yet. LOL And I almost let him get his hands on that paint but voted against it at the last minute! Thank you for reading!

Somehow I've managed to miss a chapter, so I'm going to have to backtrack to find it.

Love Frodo being sorry he lost his temper, evidently, with Tunnely. The old goat!

And it sounds as if Pippin's learning what Tunnely thinks of him in spite of everything Frodo's tried to do.

Author Reply: Frodo's best intentions where Pippin is concerned have not gone as planned but on the other hand, Frodo was going to have to explain things anyway. Hobbits love their gossip too much for this not to have gotten to Pippin sooner or later. I saw that you had found the missing chapter and now you are all caught up. I should have more posted soon if all goes well. Thanks so much for all of the reviews and for reading!

aw...poor pippin! those pies sound good.
my favorite line: "eat your cobbler, meriadoc."
for some reason that cracks me up...

Author Reply: It's funny that you should mention that line because it made me laugh when I wrote it. I can hear Frodo saying it and I think that was what made it funny for me. I've wanted pie all day myself and I think I was hungry when I wrote this. Thanks for reading and I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who laughed at that part! LOL

Oh dear, they were not fast enough! Must have been the second round of cobbler ;-)

Poor Pippin! What will he think now, what will he do?
Hopefully, Frodo and Merry are still in town to pick him up!

Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author Reply: Yes, they over-did the cobbler a bit in this chapter. When I look at this story it seems as if all they've done is eat cobbler. LOL But hobbits do love to eat. Pippin has had a shock with this and as to how he will take it, I am not completely sure myself. But more as soon as possible! Thanks for reviewing!

Poor poor Pippin! what a terrible way of finding out.
Too bad Frodo didn't get to talk to him first.

I can't wait for next chapter.

henry

Author Reply: Frodo did know that he needed to speak to Pippin quickly but Pippin got the news before Frodo could manage it. Now, Frodo will have his hands full trying to sort it all out. So glad you are still enjoying this one and I do thank you for reviewing!
