What an adorable story! It well deserves the recommendation from Marigold.

Your little Pippin-lad is so sweet not only in the way he grumps at Saradoc for trying to make him cheer up, but also in the way he cares so much about his Merry, the kittens, and the Burrows. What I really like is how Pippin charged the kitten with doing what he himself had been forbidden from doing, looking after his Merry. Pippin must have felt much relieved with the kitten on duty to give Merry the love and protection he himself so badly wanted to give him.

I'm so glad that you show that Pippin was not the irresponsible young hobbit that so many portray him as (although he certainly could act that way at times), but as a young hobbit raised with character and responsibility enough to know that one should always pay for a gift one is going to give to someone else. I also like how perceptive you have made him, understanding that the Burrows are short of coin and could use the extra money, and kind enough to want to help them out.

And his affection and concern for the kittens! Of course, most children do have a soft spot for puppies and kittens, but I always felt that Pippin would definitely be a true animal lover.

A lovely little Pippin story!

Author Reply: Well I feel absolutely rotten right now! I can't believe this lovely review slipped by me - I'm so sorry Gryffinjack!! I don't know how I missed it! My email is usually so good about delivering SoA reviews. If I hadn't gone back to reread this today for some new fic research I might have missed your review forever! :(

Let me thank you right now for your comments! I'm so delighted that you enjoyed it (however long ago, lol!) especially the fact that Pippin is responsible and has been raised properly. I think this is a really important aspect to his character, because I simply can't imagine him as a rude, horrible little child. I think that as a gentlehobbit his parents would have raised him properly and taught him to have compassion for others and to conduct himself with dignity, even as such a young age. This is a really important aspect of Pippin's personality for me, and I think we see as a tween in LOTR how compassionate he is to others and how he always wants to help them. It all has to do with how he was raised, I think :)

I still feel awful about being so late with this reply. So sorry!

A grand and pleasant story, ST! So true to Pippin that he would want to pay for the kitten and I loved the ending - perfectly done :)

Author Reply: Thank you, Pearl! I think Pippin would have been brought up with a good sense of what's right and wrong, and he's more perceptive than people give him credit for. He would have noticed the Burrows' plight and also would have realized that Merry needed a friend to keep him company when Pippin could not. I'm very happy that you enjoyed it!! :D

Oh, sweetness itself! I love WeePippin stories and toss in a kitten and a sick Merry and you've got smiles all around. Lovely!

Author Reply: Thanks so much, Pips! I'm very glad you enjoyed this fluff :)

Awwww...What a sweet, fluffy, adorable little story. Loved it!! What a thoughtful little hobbit lad your Pippin is. I especially liked him insisting to the farmer he had to pay for the kitten. Because he'd overheard the farmer's family was having money problems.

Thank you for sharing this w/us.

Author Reply: Pippin is a considerate young hobbit and he would never want to cheat anyone out of anything. I'm so happy that you enjoyed this. Thank you very much, Tigger! :)

Such a sweet present - and Pippin showed sensitivity to the farmer, despite his youth. I'm sure Merry will enjoy the kitten.

Author Reply: I think Pippin is very sensitive to the well-being of others, and I'm sure that Merry will appreciate a living, breathing (and cuddly!) present :)
I'm so glad you enjoyed this - thank you! :)

“Remember what I said,” he whispered in the kitten’s ear. “I need you to keep Merry company. I don’t want him to be sad and lonely without anyone to play with while he is sick. But once he is better, all three of us will have fun together.”

Aw - what a sweet little story! Although Pippin is but a lad, he feels responsible not only for the health of his Merry, but also for the Burrows family. He's just remarkable :)

Author Reply: I think he's remarkable too! :) I'm glad you think so as well, and that you enjoyed my little story. Thank you very much, Andrea!

Aw - what a lovely piece of fluff about such a small ball of fluff! Loved it.

Author Reply: Fluff about fluff! Is that a new genre? :) I'm glad you enjoyed it - thank you very much!

Love Pippin's caring for HIS Merry like this. Wonderful images--could see it all.

Author Reply: I like to think that Merry and Pippin take turns at caring for one another. Thanks for your comments, Larner - I'm so glad you liked it! :)

Very nice, and very well written!
What a sweet picture of hobbity love, kindness, and generosity.

Hugs and blessings,
Mum

Author Reply: I think hobbits are the most loving and generous folk around, and they must be like that from birth :) I'm very happy that you enjoyed this - thank you so much!
