Pearl's Pearls  by Pearl Took 6 Review(s)
TiggerReviewed Chapter: 6 on 10/21/2007
Oh!! How did I miss this little gem of a story? This is lovely Pearl and I too was given a gift of Crochet hooks one Christmas. Only mine was a complete set. They were and still are one of the greatest Christmas gifts my sister's ever given me and have kept a lot of little Preemies at my local Neo Natal Unit warm over the years.

“Those fancy made needles and hooks,” Bell breathed in disbelief. “Ya noticed me lookin’ at them. Ya noticed.”

“Yes. I’m sorry there are only three of each. I hope . . .”

“Only three of each! Only?” She threw her arms around him holding him tightly for a few moments before noticing the quilt had fallen off of him. She pulled it back into place then hugged him some more. “It’s a treasure, that’s what. A treasure like . . . like . . . a dragon’s hoard! A treasure.”

Yes, they really were treasure to Bell who never knew a store bought gift in her life before this. As to only three of each in a different size...I'm sure all of the Gamgees were kept warm thanks to those needles and hooks in "only three sizes" over the years. Gifts of love do tend to create gifts of love in return.

I've also learned to knit the last couple of years and I'm hoping to be giving a pair of socks to someone in my family this year. I still find it slow going compared to crochet and I think I'll always prefer crochet over knitting. However, I'm rather proud of trying to learn how to knit on and off since I was eight, that I've finally gotten the hang of the thing. ;o)

What a lovely, warm and sweet little story. Thanks for sharing it w/us Pearl!! :o)

Author Reply: Thank you so very much Tigger!

I knit as well :-) I like the fabric itself better with knit, but crochet is definitely faster! That is so sweet that you donate to the neo natal unit :-)

It is so nice to get a review on a story that was posted quite awhile ago, I'm so glad you found this and liked it so much.

Thank you!

Awwwww now isn't that sweet...a jump from chilling to heartwarming in one bound. This collection is like a book I can't put down...wonderful! Why am I just now discovering it? But then, I love discovering new treasures.......

Yes, a treasure from one treasure to the other as they work at forging a life together, there in Number 3. Lovely, lovely! And Ham is halfway to a delightful end to a cold and slippery day.

Author Reply: Thank you very much, Larner :) The first birthday gift I got from husband after we were married was a set of matched crochet hooks in a carrying case. It meant a lot, not just because it was for my first birthday as his wife but because it showed he appreciated my crocheting. I still have the complete set :)

Ahh. It's delightful to see a romantic Hamfast going out of his way to please Bell - and then walking through the foul weather to bring her gift home. A lovely story.

Author Reply: Thank you, Bodkin :) A little romance does a heart good :) I'm glad you enjoyed the story :)

Oh, how sweet! This was lovely - there aren't many fics about young Hamfast and Bell, but they must have been sweet together, because they produced six children, including the wonderful Sam. It was nice to see Ham being affectionate and not grumpy! He's a very observant hobbit to pick up on what Bell was looking at.

Author Reply: Thank you, BB :) I've always figured the Gaffer for one of those males that hides that he's sensitive behind being gruff. His fellow hobbits like and respect him and they wouldn't if he were really as mean as his grumpiness seems :)

I glad you like the story and thank you for responding :)

I am interrupted before reading more than the first sentence or two. Was this at the challenge? If so I missed it--have only had time to read a few of the stories yet.

Will try to sneak back later.

*hugs*

Author Reply: Sorry :( , I didn't think it would be misguiding to say it was a Yule challenge, but it is as it wasn't specifcally titled that. I didn't mean to have anyone thinking they had missed out on something.

Thanks for checking in :)
