Ah, how marvelous! I love our Pippin, and his father!

Author Reply: Thank you Larner, I love them too! That's probably why I write about them so much :-)

Once again, wonderful story, Pearl!

I had to chuckle when I read about Paladin getting breathless while just listening to Pippin talking ;-)

I never heard of that particular adage before, but it proved to be true!

And Paladin is the best father one could wish for!

Author Reply: Hi Andrea :-)

Kids can do that to you - well, and some adults I know as well LOL!

I had never heard that adage either, but it's a rather accurate one I think.

I'm glad you like Paladin :-)

I love watching "Dirty Jobs" too, but never did the saying about the nastiest jobs are always well paid by those who don't want to do them have as much of an impact as when Mike went down to New Orleans to work w/the recovery crews tearing down the condemned houses. Mike was walking out towards an enviromental hazard container w/a casserole bowl filled w/water and in it, all you could see was mosquito larve. One of the other guys on the team as he walked past Mike glanced inside the bowl and said, "There goes another bowl of malaria out of a house."

I alwasys had the greatest of respect for the men and women who are working down there trying do what they can and often encountering things we'd never even dreamed off in our worst nightmares. It skyrocketed by the factor of 100 after seeing that episode though.

This was such a wonderful and sweet little story. Pippin w/more than his heart in the right place and then finding out that he wouldn't get scolded for getting dirty. That it was just simply what would end up happening as he did whatever job for that day... Yes, I can see how a Tween would see that as fun. :oD

I so loved how he kept the secret going for so long. W/the cunning sweetie hiding his grubby gear in the lane, then heading straight for the pond once home and then the bathing rooms...It really was brillant and nobody knew a thing. Until people started, as they will do, to talk and Paladin got word of Pippin's doings for the summer.

And all for just a because I love you Mom present...That was the last straw. After that, I succumbed to the temptation and disappeared into the pile of fluffy goodness that had been calling to me. :oD

What a wonderfully sweet and lovely little story this is. Thanks Pearl!! :o)

Author Reply: Thank you so much Tigger for such a lovely response! "Dirty Jobs" is a wonderful show if only for helping the rest of us to appreciate those hard working folks better.

I'm glad you eventually succumbed ;-) You are most welcome!

Good for Pip!

And I loved this bit...

Paladin was smiling, though feeling breathless as he often did with his youngest. It often seemed his lad did not need to breathe like most hobbits.

You catch his voice just beautifully!

Author Reply: Thank you harrowcat for the wonderful compliment :-)

What a delightful story!

I love Pippin's work ethic, his cleverness, the neighbours' concern, and Paladin's understanding. My goodness, if my Paladin had only known this secret that Pippin learned in this story, why, he'd never have become so sour and liverish as Thain (in my Muse's world, that is).

Author Reply: Thank you Lin :-) I wish your Paladin had learned it too. Maybe if you ever write your other thread of stories . . .
