Pearl's Pearls  by Pearl Took 6 Review(s)

Somehow I missed this when you first posted it! No time to read more of your stories (I glanced over the new one *shiver* but no time to leave feedback), but wanted to comment on this. Goodness, clever Pippin, to feign being dead in order to get help!

(I wonder just how Everard fixed Dellie's wagon?)

Whew. Glad Pippin is no longer being chased by bullying girls.

Author Reply: Quite all right, Lin :-)

I'm not sure we'll ever know what transpired ;-) It was clever, especially as he was drunk at the time.

You did great with the elements for the story! I can empathise with Pervinca wanting to make new friends, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for Delly. I *can* see how this situation probably shaped Pervinca into one of the Terrible Took Sisters, though. :-P Next time she'll help to be her brother's protector. Pippin sure learned an invaluable lesson, as well.

Well done!

Author Reply: Hi PippinFan!

Yes, don't take every wager/dare that comes your way! I do feel Paladin's children would have had some trouble adjusting to life in the fishbowl of Great Smials. So glad you liked it :-)

A terrible way to prove you like someone--to nearly devil him to death!

Glad he's shut of her, and Vinca as well.

Author Reply: Thank you Larner :-)

Me too! Vinca really needed a nicer friend. Delly was rather overbearing - LOL

Oh my! What a situation!

Of course, Pippin was well-behaved and did not dare to trick tweenaged lasses. But, if you ask me, I'd say that Delphinium was far away from behaving like a tweenager. There would have been other ways to show Pippin her love.

However, I'm confident that she will find herself a suitable partner someday. She's still young.

And Pippin? He'll be fine when the hangover is gone. And Paladin should be right proud of him. But I don't know if he's of the same opinion ;-)

Author Reply: Yes, my version of Paladin will be proud of his son for not going along with Delphinium's urges. He will probably give him a talking to about the wagers he takes on . . .

Delphinium was acting a great deal like a tweenager who is close to coming of age, although like an over enthusiastic one.

I hope she'll find someone as well :-)

Thank you Andrea!

I sort of feel sorry for Delphie - but not very!

Author Reply: hehehe I do to, but not very. Golden really did :-)

Thank you for leaving a response harrowcat!

Oh, an excellent answer to the challenge! In some ways it reminds me of my story "The Dare" in that it is dealing with drinking and adolescent peer pressure--but by having it be females instead of males, and having Pippin's sister in the mix, you changed the whole dynamic of it!

It would have been a lot harder for Pippin to turn away from a dare from the lasses--first of all, his innate politeness would make him reluctant to argue too forcefully, and second of all, he'd feel even more embarrassed to fail to take the dare from a lass. And having his sister there would, of course, goad him even more.

Then there is the matter of the peer pressure on Pervinca, who finds herself reluctantly betraying her younger brother, whom she knows deep inside that she should be protecting instead. You portrayed her ambivalent feelings and mixed motives very well indeed!

And the sexual nature of Delphinium's motives also bring something else into it. Of course, we often hear of boys taking advantage of girls--but as the mother of a son, I can say with some sad experience, a predatory girl can be just as bad for a boy!

A very interesting story! Good job!

Author Reply: Thank you so much for this response Dreamflower :-) The other story ("Wabbit") was the one getting the responses and I was just about to take this one off the site feeling that I'd finally written my failure.

I've had no experience with predatory girls with my son, but both of my kids new girls like this and have told me about them, so I know they are out there.

I also do know what it's like to move somewhere where you are in a prominent position and wondering how you'll ever find any friends.

Again, thank you so much :-)
