Anticipation  by Ellie 3 Review(s)

Finarfin and Earwen must have been so excited at the prospect of seeing their daughter again after such a long separation. I love the way Finarfin cannot hold his horse back, but races ahead to Alqualonde.

The sheer time scale of elven lives is amazing - three thousand years and he is still not used to a change! It does make it essential to work toward understanding - even over such matters as Kinslayings!

Galadriel's delight at seeing her father is lovely.

Author Reply: I tried to write this without using the word "anticipation" until the very end, describing the sense without stating it. It was fun playing with time relative to an elf and an "old" elf at that.

I have watched my husband with our daughter who has him so completely wrapped around her little finger. I tried to imagine what it must have been like for Finarfin (he had four sons before the daughter came along), then to have her go away for so long and what it must have felt like when his little girl finally returned.

Elves are described as "grown up children", so I could easily see a horse race breaking out on a trip to Alqualonde.

Thank you very much for reading and reviewing!

A very sweet homecoming. For parents, their children never seem to grow up.

Author Reply: I enjoyed writing this and making the most powerful elf in Midlle Earth a daddy's girl at heart. I also could just imagine how wonderful it would be to have a child return home after being away for a long time and how that void the child had left would suddenly be filled again.

The library I'm in is closing very shortly, but I'd just like to say that I really enjoyed reading this. Finarfin seemed so real, as did the longing for his daughter. I'm glad that he can see her as both his baby girl, and as his daughter in all her majesty and wisdom.

Author Reply: I think this is the way that many fathers see their adult daughters. I also think that Finarfin was very close to his children, so the return of the last one he could hope to have come home must have been wonderful for him indeed.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!
