All of these characters -- OC and canon -- are coming alive nicely. The dialogue is very well done.

| Xanthe is an intriguing character. I think it's hard to create good female characters in Tolkien's world, but you have done so in her. The description of the effect of her illness was heartrending. I can imagine what it must have done to a shy child to be isolated like that. |

| This was a great chapter! I love Eomer and this is such a skillful introduction of him and the boy and his sister. You show us so much without having to tell us. And then there is that nice last line, suggestion Eomer's loneliness. |
