| Very eerie! The way the willows are taking over the thoughts of those hobbits - and the influence is spreading - is very well done. It's a good thing Tom Bombadil was able to intervene. I do like Cullassisul. Definitely non-human - sorry, non-hobbit - and limited in how she can respond to her descendants, but fascinating. | Well...seems Pip and Merry took care of Old Man Willow for good. :-) Saradoc is a very patient husband with Esme. And I must say that I enjoyed Pippin's fright of his auntie when he gazed into her eyes. So, Cullassisul orignates in the Old Forest, eh? Hmmmm....sounds like a good plot bunny to me. :-) Have you ever gave thought to writing a story on Cullassisul's beginnings? | Oooh, this is so creepy! My heart was in my throat more than once. You've done a good job continuing in your AU and tying in all those threads. Jay of Lasgalen has a different take, with a happier ending for Old Man Willow, but yours is certainly effective. I liked the deep love that Saradoc and Esmerelda showed throughout their part of the adventure. I was interested to hear that there were various hobbits throughout the Shire affected by the "willow poison" -- I'd begun to suspect it was a vendetta against Tooks! I think my favorite, most joyful part was when the Old Forest Trees began singing the Tom Bombadil song! That showed that their infection was clearing. And then when they began singing to the hobbits, I was laughing for joy and relief. And you did their portion of the song very well; it blended nicely with the original Tom Bombadil song. Good job, Pearl! Author Reply: Thank you so much! Yes, I didn't want it being a vendetta against the Tooks - just one against the hobbits ;) I figured since all four of the Travellers fell under the spell when they went into the Old Forest in FOTR, that Old Man Willow could affect any hobbits. I'm glad you liked the change in the hearts of the trees and the song :) The song took more work than most of the story. Thank you, Mum's the Word for such a nice response :) | |

| Quite a contrast to the short I think Garnet posted of Legolas meeting and taming OMW. Very spooky, and so sorry that one child did die after all. Old Man Willow is NOT a nice tree--definitely a dark-hearted Huorn type. Author Reply: I didn't know anyone else had written of this, foolish thought of course. At this point it seems there is hardly anything that hasn't been covered several times. Ah well, blame this one more version of it on Marigold since it was her starter that inspired this story.
