I love this one especially so much~ so melancholy yet the love Sam has for Rosie is so very well portrayed. I was rereading these on LJ again last night and was just.. a puddle of goo. :D ::loves these soooo much:: =) Author Reply: Thank you, Peri! I love them, too!

Those three were beautiful, Cuthalion! I think, Frodo was right, when he told Rosie, that her love rooted Sam in the Shire. Sam was able to live a life full of joy in his beloved Shire and to grow old happily - and all because of Rosie. She's a wonderful woman. When she died, Sam could part with the Shire without regret. I wished, that could have been true for Frodo, too. Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea! One of the biggest joys while writing Before I go to sleep was being able to follow the footsteps of a few of my favorite authors and to create a strong, believable, vivid Rosie. The are very few female characters in LOTR, and she is one of the most underestimated ones - not by Tolkien (who loved and honored her in letters and materials) but by many of his readers. I'm glad that you liked this Trio of tales!

The embodied conscience! What a wonderful image! And knowing it will all blow over so quickly! As for memories of feasts before love--I love it. These three are superb, Cuthalion. Author Reply: Thank you *blushes*. They were written for rabidsamfan, the probably best Sam-writer I know, and it was a joy to play with her favorite toy! And I love both, Sam and Rosie, but perhaps I love Rosie a little bit more - she is one of the most underestimated characters in LOTR, and she is such a delighful, deft, clever and loving woman. I'm very glad that you liked my Trio as much as I do!

Oh, yes--I agree. The Shire needed Sam, and had Rosie not been his roots, he'd have left it betimes, gone to follow Frodo across the Sea to the Shire's great loss.
