You are well named the Angst Maven! Oh, Ariel, you have me in tears-and that's a compliment coming from me. What an interesting idea! God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Awww! Thank you! I can't help loving the angst - and writing it - so it is a good thing people enjoy it!

What a lovely story. This is truly a work of art.
Thanks so much!

Author Reply: Thank you, Cher! It is lovely to find new readers are enjoying my work. Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed the piece.

What a delicate and nuanced little piece! And true to canon in its restraint and subtlety. I know Frodo’s tragic lack of family, “what a hobbit held dearest,” is a recurring theme in your stories, and this is a lovely, poignant addition to them.

On a personal note, this got me all choked up:

“I remember her showing them to me when I was but a lad as proof of how big and strong I'd grown."

I do the same thing with my boys, and they always get a thrill out of seeing their newborn shirts, bonnets, and booties. They were slightly preemie twins, so the stuff was really tiny! And now my little ones are big, rowdy 10-year-olds…*sniff!*

Author Reply: Um, yeah, I should probably get a new theme - I am going to start boring the twenty-somethings. (Start?!?)

Oh, well. My audience might be made up mostly of the handful of grownups that still frequent this fandom, but they are an awfully rewarding bunch to write for. Thank you!

SOB!!! This was so tender and sweet, yet so very sad....you *always* do that to me, you devil woman! Still, I am helpless to turn away from one of your wonderful stories. I say again, SOB....

Author Reply: Not sure who reviewed but, thank you!!! I am sorry about the sobs, but, well, I am the Angst Maven.

I am so glad you posted this over here! It is just as lovely the second time around!

Author Reply: I am truly amazed at the response this little thing has gotten! With so much fanfic having been written, I felt certain that this moment or something like it had been done before (in fact, didn't Arien do one? I think her 'Home' was along these lines, wasn't it? I don't remember). I hoped it would please the requester (Ms_Banazira) but had little hope for more. This has been a delightful surprise!

Oh, Ariel, I cannot tell you how much I love this. I have looked at Frodo's loss (his parents) from many POVs but never considered Rosie's. This and the secret knowledge that he will have neither family nor life in the Shire was... well, I just can't find any words to describe it. Heartbreaking, perhaps.

And then Frodo's foresight. It was only today that my friend and I talked about it and wondered where it came from. Whether it was a side-effect of the Ring or a gift Frodo bore within him his entire life....

Wonderful story!

Author Reply: Awww! Well, Bilbo, a very perceptive hobbit in later life, did think him the best hobbit in the Shire. My guess is that since he had often dreamed of the sea even before the quest, that there might have been something more to him even from the start. Although, we don't know. Other hobbits might have dreamed of the sea too. Thank you for your sweet comments!

I love your Rosie, Ariel... simple yet wise, clear-eyed, warm-hearted, radiating with love. It is a comforting thought that she knew before Frodo left... and thank you also for the wonderful portrait of Frodo. He knows that she understands; he doesn't have to reveal everything, and that must have been a great relief. The whole thing is simply marvelous.

Author Reply: As I said over on LJ - thank you! This was only supposed to be a little thing for a drabble response, but I have a feeling I am going to have to outdo myself for each challenge I lost or someone is going to feel slighted! Eeep!

This is so sad and intimate Ariel. Poor Rosie some of the smells are good but some made her ill. As if being pregnant isn't hard enough. Scent is such a powerful trigger of memory too.

Author Reply: This is based on my own experience so it's accurate in that respect. My sense of smell got very acute during pregnancy - but it was more that I became more aware of smells that had already been part of my world. It was quite enlightening for me so I thought it might have been for Rosie too.

A sweet, sad, lovely tale.

She wished there were something she could say to him, but his smile held her tongue. In his bright and fathomless eyes was the answer to her question. Its worth was in the renewed green of the Shire's fields, in its barns filled with corn, and its people free and innocent once more. He saw it returned tenfold in her husband's joy filled face and in the fruitful swell of her belly. She opened her mouth to speak, but he stood and stepped away from the table, showing little sign of the old strain.

*sniff*

Author Reply: Awww! Thank you! I am so overwhelmed by the response this piece has gotten. I've always written them a bit differently than most people and worry that my take wouldn't be accepted. Thank you for letting me know otherwise.
