they are ents, why did they not move? And besides there are still half -elves in this present world.biding their time and waiting for the grey ship to return for them.
please write a sequel!I hate when stories end.~*maybe include a half-elven*~(hint hint)? Of course it is your story and I enjoyed it very much:D

After reading this story, I really had to take my time processing it. This is such a gem hidden in this archive and it simply amazes me by how this story can both have a humorous feeling and yet, at the same time is a true tragedy. Tell me Space Weavil how can you write these words and entish dialogue in such a great manner? What gave me the shivers was how the author wrote about war and how the ents wondered how those iron birds could drop their eggs that only spread fire. This story makes me wonder: do we indeed run through our lives as mad (wo)men? You let your characters take the time to formulate their thoughts and before you know it: a century has passed. How more Entish can this be??? I remember in the movies that Treebeard said: it takes a long time to say anything in old entish, and we never say anything unless it is worth taking a long time to say. This surely applies to these two tree herders. I felt so sad to see that in the end they were felled and that we nowadays do not take time to listen to nature. Who knows if we can find a tree herder nearby? A very compelling read Space, maybe a short story, but with so much hidden in there that I re-read this tale of yours often! Great work, as usual!

I can go along with the scurrying humans being irritating - like ants - but they are well-meaning, even if ultimately they failed to preserve the ents. I enjoyed the recollection of various points in history - Wars of the Roses? Charles II taking refuge in a tree after the Battle of Worcester? Not to mention WW2. But the saddest thing is that destruction is so often made in complete ignorance - and usually 'for the best'. And, in the immortal words of Joni Mitchell, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

Very sad, really. War of the roses? Ah, have unfortunately stood in that "forest," and offered my prayers for one who died there.

This brought tears to my eyes.

I've reviewed this at OSA so you already know that this story, along the The Bow, are my two all time favorite stories of yours. I think this is the only story I have read where the Ents are main characters. I love the way you play with the passage of time as they see it. And the end--still makes me angry and sad enough to cry even though I have re-read this a hundred times. Love it!!
