I always think of that bit in the unfinished Epilogue that did not make it into LotR, and how Rosie had faith that Sam would return...

| This was a lovely vignette--I could imagine them on their picnic, and Sam being more than usually solemn. Poor fellow, it must have been so hard for him, knowing that they weren't just going to Buckland... |
