Definitely thought provoking. Now I'd like to explore the thoughts of Feanor himself--the secret ones not shared in his speech!

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked this! I've never tried to get into Feanor's mind before to see what torments raged within in him during at his same speech which Finarfin rebuts (is that even a word?)

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Well, I am not much of a fan of the Finweans, as you probably know. ;)

However, I read your last three posts and have been remiss in telling you how much I liked them. Finarfin (and his son Finrod) are certainly among the better elda of their kin. But, you are admirably bold with first-person pov and very good with description - you are expressive. Which captured me enough in the first story to read two more. I know this history, but you made me feel it. That's good fanfiction!

Author Reply: Thank you so very much for the compliments! I'm glad that others are feeling the emotion I felt when I wrote my Finarfin fics. I'm a confirmed Finarfinatic, I must admit, and am always glad to find others who are willing to see him worthy of the respect that I think he is due considering all that had been thrust upon him.

Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!

Hi Ellie,

You have written a tale about one of my favorite Eldar—Finarfin. I have admired him from the first—his calmness in the face of Fëanor's madness, his diplomacy and his evident love for the Teleri. What grief he must have suffered when his wife's kin were attacked and murdered ! I think he had great courage, for he was willing to face the scorn of the remaining Eldar and risk the censure of the Valar themselves. There is also the lovely statement in _The Silmarillion_ that Finrod, after his re-housing, walks with his father beneath the trees. Thank you for this thought-provoking tale.

Author Reply: Thank you so very much! It is not often that I find others who feel a great love and respect for Finarfin. I, too, always loved that statement about Finrod walking with his father beneath the trees.

Thanks so very much for reading and revewing! I'm glad you enjoyed my story!

I think Finarfin showed huge courage in turning back - it is so difficult to admit that a decision taken in good faith was wrong. And there is never, really, any thought given to how impossible a task he took on himself: not just the throne, but the guardianship of a people who had been torn apart - families divided, children left behind. Left with the responsibility of attempting reconciliation with the other kindreds. And all this without any of his children - all his family, save his mother and wife, gone off at the behest of the undisciplined Feanor.

I hope you write more Finarfin. I enjoyed reading his thoughts here.

Author Reply: Thank you for your comments. I enjoy exploring his character. Oh, that could be taken sooooo badly. Okay, I enjoy writing about him. How's that? I hope to write many more fics about him, he is so very inspiring as a muse.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Aha--a wonderful repudiation of the evil Feanor wrought in his vanity and grief. Morgoth managed to infect him, but not his half-brother.

Author Reply: I have seen so very little written from Finarfin's perspective that actually treats Finarfin as a courageous person. I didn't realise how much he had to face and deal with until I started writing this story. I find Finarfin to be an impressive king indeed, and so much the more so because he was never meant to be king.
