I love Gimli in this story. He is so sweet and so very in character. He and Pippin are interesting together. I like the way Gimli looks after Pippin since saving his life.

Author Reply: Thank you, GW. I think Gimli shows "his quality" over and over when it comes to loyalty to his friends -- especially the young hobbits.

You really have Gimli to perfection here. I love the way he anticipates what Pippin is thinking. And how that delivery from Minas Tirith must have helped!

Author Reply: Thank you so much. It took me a long time to figure out how to write Gimli. That sweetie-pie.

Wow!! What a great chapter. Loved the image of Gimli hovering over Pippin and figuring out in advance what Pippin was thinking/worrying about. Oh and one other thing that came from Minas Tirith... ;o) Great job m'dear. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author Reply: Yes, that 'delivery' from Minas Tirith did bring a lot of wonderful things (and a certain wonderful hobbit). Thank you! :D

Pippin is such a lovable Hobbit.I especially enjoyed the way Gimli knew he was about to wake up !

Author Reply: I'm having such a good time imagining these scenes. Gimli has such a difficult time hiding affection for his hobbits, especially this one. :D

you've done it now.....hooked me on another story. now I have to suffer through the time between posts.... *sigh*

Author Reply: Sorry! Hobbits... they're so addictive...

I love a good thunderstorm--I hope I didn't miss it. :-P So many terrific things going on in this chapter!

You may run about camp when Aragorn says it is time, and not before,” Gimli reminded Pippin

That gave me a good snicker; you'll see why soon, I hope.

Looking forward to more!

Author Reply: It's nice to be inside (or under shelter) when it's raining, isn't it? Especially with hobbits there, too. :D

Thanks, Pip! And I'm enjoying your story, very much too!

Wonderful moments here as Gimli demonstrates just how much he'd learned of Hobbit nature during their long journey. The nose twitching at the smell of food was wonderful, as is the arrival of Merry.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I think of Gimli as very observant and protective of 'his hobbits'. I think he would have kept an eye on Pippin during his convalescence.

Gimli chuckled. “Peregrin Took, I doubt there is a person in all of Middle-earth who could claim to know everything you are thinking!”

“Except for me,” came a quiet voice from the entrance.

Yay, Merry has arrived! I was wondering if he was still on his way, and now he answered my question in person! A perfect entry!

“When a hobbit’s nose begins to twitch at the smell of food cooking, I know enough to suspect he is waking, and will be asking for his supper.”

LOL! Gimli knows his hobbits very well indeed :)

Author Reply: Gimli tends to be such a quiet observer in the story, I don't doubt he's stored away a lot of information about 'his hobbits'. What a soft-hearted dwarfie.

:D

Oh, how sweet! I love the moment with Pippin and Gimli, and Pip's concern for the rest of them and his eagerness to be up. I've often thought the the nickname "unquenchables" would suit him and Merry, and it definitely fits him! And the end, with Merry coming in, is just precious! Er...maybe I shouldn't use that word...:)
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: But hobbits are... precious! And definitely unquenchable. :D

A mind reading Dwarf!?! I just love it but then Gimli has had plenty of time to get to know his hobbit! *g* Now, just wondering, how DID they get to know that Pippin is extremely sensitive to the sleeping draught? I smell another snippit of a story waiting for the writing - perhaps as a prequal to this?

Author Reply: Believe it or not, I borrowed the fact that Pippin is "sensitive to draughts" idea from one of the very first stories I wrote, in 2002 -- "Unlikely Comfort". :D
