Lazing on A Sunny Afternoon  by Jay of Lasgalen 14 Review(s)

Oh, I really thought Elrohir had done something really stupid! It was quite funny (in a relieved sort of way) that he had merely got bored of hiding!

Author Reply: Elladan and Celebrían were both beginning to worry, too. It would be mean if Elrohir had deliberately ignored his brother's calls, so I decided he was just bored and got distracted.

That was so very,very cute!!

Author Reply: Thank you - as much as I like to write angst with the older twins, I love to write them like this as well!

PS: And by the way - I recognise the lyric!

And I love to live so pleasantly,
Live this life of luxury,
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
In the summertime...

Author Reply: I couldn't remember if the original lyric was 'on a Sunday afternoon' or not. But Elves don't have Sundays, and 'sunny' worked better.

Ahh. Poor Elladan, being unable to find his brother. Mind you, he does seem to be a little bit of a pushy brother (- reminds me rather of a story my mother tells of wanting to go and play with her brother as a child. He got her to hide and then disappeared with his friends). A Whitehall farce of an afternoon - people in and out of French windows and popping into cupboards and just missing each other.

And Elrohir wasn't avoiding them at all - just helping with the horses.

My favourite line has to be - I saw Nana, and I could tell she was worried, so we came to look for you together. Oh yeah, Elladan - she was really worried! Lovely Elrohir, running up to hug her and tell her she needn't have worried. And covering her in Horse.

Mind you, spending a hot afternoon swimming with your sons isn't such a bad way to spend your time. One of those pearls on the string of memory.

Author Reply: I think Celebrían will treasure this afternoon - especially after wondering where Elrohir had got too. I'm glad you liked Elladan's comment about her being worried - it was only added in the final edit, but seemed just right.

Your story reminds me of my son. When he got fed up with his little sister being around all the time, they'd play hide and seek - then he'd go and do someting else. He did it several times, and she still played!

Well, a day of relaxing for Celebrian, wasn't to be, especially with two twins. Poor Elladan, can't find his brother, but I wonder was Elrohir really pulling his leg, I am wondering if he really did take an effort to find Elladan...

It sounds like the twins.... Love these stories when they were small... Great job...

Author Reply: Yes, Elrohir did try to find Elladan - but then he got distracted by the horses. He wouldn't deliberately stay hidden - he knows Elladan would be upset.

I must admit, I love to write about the young twins as well!

Aww, no fair. My twin and I don't have a special bond. *sigh* I guess its just another SEWPUR KEWL ELF POWER that we mortals don't get.
haha very cute! good job

Author Reply: Are you identical? The few identical twins I know seem much closer than the fraternal ones. But of course you're right - these are elves :>)

This makes one envy the elves their long childhood... and how Celebrian and Elrond must have enjoyed these years. Very nice relaxing fluff.

Author Reply: I expect Elrond and Celebrían enjoyed the twins' childhood most of the time. I imagine there are some moments they'd rather forget :>)

Although elves have a longer childhood that we do, against a lifetime of thousands of years, it must be gone in a flash - so Celebrían enjoyed this change to her plans, despite the loss of her quiet afternoon.

The groom shook his head. He bowed, but Celebrían did not miss his broad smile. “No, Lord Elrohir, but thank you for your assistance today. It was invaluable.”

How toooo adorable. :D

Author Reply: Actually, Elrohir was helping. This is the moment when Elrohir realises how much he likes working with horses. The grooms like having him around.

I just love reading about the twins being the whirlwind thay are... And the way you describe the bond between them is amazing.
Poor Elladan about to start crying when he finds out that Elrohir is laughing.. without him... it's almost enough to get him mad isn't it??
I can just emagine how hard it must have been for Celebrian to get some time to herself with the twins and a household the size of Imladris to run, but she is more than happy to go and play anyway ;)

Author Reply: I think the twins must be quite exhausting, so it's no wonder Celebrían wants time to herself sometimes! She doesn't mind losing her quiet afternoon, though.

I've always written the twins as very close, and although they argue and fall out sometimes, it never lasts long. Because of their bond, if one is upset, the other feels it.

*grin* This is lovely!

Celebrían must indeed find it difficult to get some time to herself and even if her family are occupied - I’m laughing at Elrond “happily” translating documents! – there’s never a guarantee that something else won’t happen that needs her attention. And apparently she isn’t getting time to read her book today either! Poor Elladan was really upset. I was starting to wonder what had happened Elrohir. But his indignation when he realises that his brother is enjoying himself somewhere is very amusing! I love the way you write the bond between the twins. Marach is clearly very fond of them – you had me chuckling when he assures Elrohir that his help was “invaluable.”

And what a perfect image to finish on. Celebrían may have been craving solitude but they’ll all enjoy their afternoon and she’ll treasure this memory of playing with her sons. Elrond doesn’t know what he’s missing!

This was a very enjoyable story for a sunny bank holiday, Jay :-)

Author Reply: One of the things I enjoyed about writing this story was in thinking of the things a child like Elrohir might have been doing - and what might keep Elrond happily occupied. I think this was the moment when Elrohir first realised how much he likes helping in the stables. Elladan was upset, so I knew that Elrohir hadn't done his disappearing act deliberately - but I wanted Celebrían and Elladan - and the reader - to wonder where he was.

Poor Elrond. Maybe I'll let him join in later on!
