Lightly Sings the Wind  by Ellie 2 Review(s)

Ellie, I am very much enchanted by how you portray Earwen. You make her seem so real with the emotion of hers, especially her sorrow over her children. I can imagine her being strong and determind if need be from how you protray her. Finarfin is a very caring husband in your stories. I really do just love all your fanfics of Finarfin/Earwen. I am very sorry if you like many reviews but I am just going to keep it simple by putting what I think of all your Finarfin/Earwen stories here. Is that okay?

In your other stories that have PoVs from FInarfin, they are just so sad because he had to live with so much sorrow and with nothing to distract him like what the rest of his family has because they have a war to win.

I love to see authors who write about characters that are only briefly mentioned but in reality play a huge part in their history though it is not recorded. Yup, I really do love the House of Finarfin.

I was wondering, do you think you could continue more stories about Earwen? Like your version of how they met? Do you think you could? If you can, I will not be able to wait to read the story then!

Namarie! (Farewell!)

P.S. Have you ever heard of Eleanor of Aquitaine? Well, I don't know why but whenever I read your stories and there is written Earwen of Alqualonde I keep getting the two mixed up sometimes. Maybe it's because they both have names beginning with 'E' and have the 'of A...' added to their names. Sorry, I just had to add that part!

Author Reply: I'm thrilled that you have enjoyed my portrayals of Finarfin and Earwen. Finarfin is one of my favorites to write about. He is so often portrayed as weak because people read that he wasn't the strongest or the craftiest and was just fairest and most wise of heart - therefore he must have been stupid and vain and weak-willed. I saw him as having a conscience and being man enough to take responsibility and make decisions for himself. I am sure I will write more about Earwen and Finarfin. I have started a multi-chapter fic about Finarfin and just need the time to write it (I've completed 3 chapters which need some overhaul and the outline is complete, too).

Right now my muse is fascinated with the abandoned wives of the house of Finwe (hence my two most recent stories) and I'm taking an odd interest in Fingolfin (again need time to write that story, too).

We'll see where the muse takes me next! I hope you will continue to be pleased!

I'm sorry I took so long to reply to your reviews. I was very sick for several months in 2007 and the recovery was slow.

Thanks so very much for reading, enjoying, and reviewing!

Such a hard time for Earwen. In some ways, I think she might have understood Artanis's decision to stay with Celeborn rather better than Finarfin did - after all, she left Alqualonde for him. (Although, of course, she could visit when she wanted.) But the knowledge of her sons' deaths - and how they died - must have been dreadful for this elf of Aman, to whom death was a horrific rarity.

Finarfin's experience must have changed him, too. Years of experiencing war and sending elves to their death must have helped him come to terms with his sons' fate - but it seems unlikely that messages would have gone back and forth between Aman and Ennor. This return would have been the first that most heard of the fate of their kin.

Having another child is probably a good move. I think, maybe, they rushed into it a bit, but it's not one of those decisions you can make rationally - and, if they had taken time to think, they probably wouldn't have done it.

And their sons will return - and so will Galadriel, in time. (It would be interesting to see how she responded to a much younger sibling!)

I enjoyed this - and feel for both Earwen and Finarfin. And her parents, too. (Her mother is very wise.) And everyone else, really. The Blessed Realm must have been an entirely different place in the aftermath of the War of Wrath.
