So sweet! It is also a subtle way of binding the two families together with each other and with the past. I love it.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for your kind words! They are much appreciated.

There are three other "Ponyverse" stories posted here at Stories of Arda: my own drabble, It's the Thought, and Edoraslass's lovely First Horse and Consolation. If you liked Heirlooms, I'm sure you'll enjoy these other stories as well.

Oh, Ann--how utterly right and proper this is! Yes, one each for Elboron and Elfwine! And the Lady Morwen made both? Yes, she would approve this!

Author Reply: What a wonderful surprise to wake up this morning to such praise! I'll be smiling all day! I'm quite pleased with the way this story came out, and those simple stuffed toys strengthening the link between the two families (as if it needed strengthening) as well as providing a reminder to the children that those illustrious members of their families were once small boys, too.

This is a gem. I love the image of little Elfwine with Theodred's horse - and Elboron with Boromir's. A bond between the generations and countries and a link with two much-loved and much-missed members of their families.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for taking the time to read all these, and comment so glowingly!

I really love the idea of the three great families of Dol Amroth, Rohan, and Gondor being intertwined, not only by marriage, but by something so simple as a child's toy, a symbol of the heritage of love standing behind all these children.

Wow! These really touched me...I am actually crying. I so love the idea of both these children having such precious gifts from their past. Reminds me of the story of the Velveteen Rabbit or How Toys Become Real. This was a great little story and I really loved it.

Author Reply: You're crying? Wow!

I love the idea of the same hands creating both ponies, never imagining the bonds that will be forged in the future to unite the families of those beloved children.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

I first read this over at Live_Journal, and I still love it! The heroines of the piece are Nanny and Winfrith who have kept the old toy ponies for all these years, though a thread of devotion runs through the entire ficlet, starting with Morwen's lovingly hand-made gifts. The description of the simple, soft toy with its flax mane is wonderful--Morwen knew exactly what a small child would love.
(Though it is too bad that the rest of the Pony!Verse stories aren't posted over here at Arda. Hint, hint.)

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I'm having quite an enjoyable day, rereading and surprising myself a bit with these stories (As soon as a story is posted, it goes right out of my head.)

I have gone ahead and posted "It's the Thought...." in my birthday and challenge drabble collection here, and have forwarded your hint to the other author of the Pony!Verse stories, whom I've be nagging encouraging to post here. Maybe hearing it from someone besides me will be the nudge she needs.

What a lovely way to unite these two families, and these two precious sons. Very sweet. We never know where our gifts may end up, do we? :D

Author Reply: Thank you so much for the kind words! How wonderful it will be for the future owners of those ponies, to hear the stories of their forebears and their adventures, and how the heirlooms were loved and cherished as they were passed along in turn.
