A lovely ending, and though I don't often appreciate movie-verse as opposed to book-verse, you've done this well indeed.

Author Reply: Thanks Lin! I usually prefer book-verse too but I wrote this as a companion to a film-verse story by Llinos that I absolutely love, More Than Just Years. I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

I particularly like the last touch of Gandalf's voice upon the breeze.

Lovely, MG!

Author Reply: Thanks very much Pearl!

I was so glad to read this one because I did think that Pippin deserved his own special goodbye in the films and didn't really get it. This completes things a bit. Thank you!

Author Reply: Thanks so much, and sorry to be so long in saying so! I feel the same way - after all that he and Gandalf went through together Pippin deserved a better farewell. I wanted to see that completion as well!

Good to see another addition to this one, MarigoldG. It has been a time; and this is a fitting one to follow your last stories.

Thank you!

Author Reply: This is a very late thank you I am afraid! I'm glad you liked this, thank you!

“This one holds no more enchantment than the first I am afraid, save the magic that binds one good friend to another.”

“That is a wonderful magic Gandalf. And, though I don’t need anything to remember you, I will treasure this always. Thank you.”

Oh, *sniff, sniff,* beautiful Marigold

Author Reply: A very late thank you for a lovely review! Thanks so much harrowcat!

I just love the relationship you have between Gandalf and Pippin -- it's so sweet and so real. Now Pippin will always have something to remember Gandalf by. Hey -- another lovely item for the High King to pass on to Faramir along with a certain silver and pearl comb set -- or perhaps bequeathed to Aragorn? ;-)

Author Reply: Thanks T! The relationship between Pippin and Gandalf is second only to that between Pippin and Merry on my favourites list. I'm so glad that you thought the way I wrote them to be realistic!

The keepsake stayed behind in the Shire when Merry and Pippin retired to Minas Tirith, so that the hobbits of the Shire would never forget Gandalf. Pippin kept it in a display case of gold and crystal that he had Gimli make for him, and it sat on the mantle in the Thain's Study for generations. The Tooks have very generously let Llinos look after it for a while!
