A Very Special Cake  by swg12 5 Review(s)

Hello,

I decided that I liked the first chapter of your latest story and would explore what others you had written.

Much to my delight - there were a few to tempt me.

With this particular story - my favourite line was almost the last one:

The cart pulled up by the shore and Sam climbed out and stood, the waves lapping up against his toes. He set the plate down on the sand and whispered, wishing that the soft breeze could carry his voice as far as it would need to be heard by its intended.

"Happy Birthday, Mr. Frodo."

Very nicely done. I like Frodo and Sam in Bag End - and the exploration of how their friendship grew.

Hopefully reading will give me the inspiration I need to continue my Escape the Darkenss story.

Thanks for sharing.

He would take off for a week or two each year to go to the sea and set Frodo's birthday cake on the shore and sing Happy Birthday? Interesting!

I love the thought and caring and the tradition of it, of course. However, I think that it would do as well for him to take it on top of the Hill or hold his ceremony either under the mallorn tree in the Party Field or even in the study, as going to the seashore, at the very least a several-day trip, wouldn't be practical.

But the story itself and the desire to do this for Frodo's birthday is wonderful, and well told.

Author Reply: Oh, well - anything for his Frodo! :) Thanks for reviewing!

This is so sweet and loving! How marvelous that Sam is honoring Frodo with the very cake (and rhyme and affection) gifted to him so many years before.
