I love Nanny! And her sight is probably clearer than that of the vast majority of those surrounding Finduilas. Up to and including the part that says spending more time with her children would have held her more closely to the world. Finduilas chose the perfect substitute mother for Boromir and Faramir, though. Denethor can be grateful to Nanny for raising such well-balanced kids. Author Reply: Thank you! And yep, I do tend to think that servants would see a lot that other people might not have noticed. This story is actually the second or third thing I ever wrote, and the very first thing with Nanny, so she's been around since the beginning of my fic-writing. I'm pleased that she's been so well-received! EL

An aching story, this one. Alas that Finduilas at the last does dwindle and find increasing grief. She was meant for wide horizons and quiet shores, not stone cities, I fear. Lovely imagery and interpretations. Author Reply: Thank you! I do identify with that feeling - big cities tend to make me claustrophobic. Give me the sea-shore any day.
