A Narrow Escape  by Jay of Lasgalen 7 Review(s)

That boy - Hal - what a plonker! And, of course, knocking Joe Average into the water and practically killing him is immaterial - it only matters if it's Lord Elrond's son and he can make you and your family suffer for it. I think he needs rather more penance, myself! Arrogant little snot.

Tom's a good'un, though. As is Barra. And Elladan must have benefited from the chicken soup cure if he's able to be more worried about Elrohir's reaction to the horse's injuries than his own!

Good story.

Author Reply: I have it on good authority (Elrohir himself!) that I was too lenient on Hal. I think I'll reconsider his punishment.

Much of this tale is based on real events - my LJ friend was driving his brother's car, and was more worried about writing it off than about his own injuries. And he is indeed enduring the chicken soup cure.

How interesting,to see others besides the little colony at the Last Homely House enjoying the tranquility of the vale of Imladris. Nice development of characters. I can just see them. i hope that the "real life" Hal also learned his lesson!

Author Reply: I don't know what will happen to the real Hals. Due punishment, I hope!

I think that as Middle Earth darkened, Elrond might allow a few deserving families to seek the sanctuary of Imladris - but not if there are any more like Hal.

Great story! I love it! There are stories telling how Elladan protect his twin, I like this one to be the other way round. Elrohir is punishing Hal for the mistake and that shows his protectiveness well.

I also like Elladan gave warning to Tom and Barra about the appearance of his twin. They must have learned from past experience and I like Elladan to be that thoughtful.

I always like stories with Elladan, hope to read more from you soon.

Author Reply: Although I write about the twins arguing and bickering a lot, if anyone ever hurts one of them, the other always comes to the rescue.

Elladan's warning to Barra and Tom didn't really help, did it? They were still amazed!

Although I write about both twins, most of my stories center on Elrohir - but events dictated that this time it had to be Elladan. Thanks for the review!

Drunk drivers in ME is something I wouldn't have guessed could be done but this was great. :-) Poor Elladan. He's lucky to have been found be such caring people. I enjoyed them. And Elrohir was great.

I hope your friend is doing well.

Author Reply: A drunk rider is the closest I could get!

Elladan's particularly lucky he was found so quickly - a few more minutes, and it would have been too late :( Hal's lucky too - his life wouldn't have been worth living if he'd killed Elladan.

My friend should be fine. His brother's a lawyer, and regretted that he wouldn't be able to prosecute - so I gave him the opportunity here!

Very nice...
Poor Elladan, being flung from the horse. Elrohir's horse dosen't seem to like Elladan that much, and has an additude, cute...

Elrohir came to his aide, and gave that boy a scowlding he deserved...

Nice job...

Author Reply: It was necessary for this story (because it's based on RL events) for Elladan to be riding Elrohir's horse. Tathren doesn't like it much!

Although Elladan was the focus of this story, of course I had to include Elrohir. He'd be much harsher on the boy than Elladan would, I think.

One never likes to see people get hurt, but it's almost worth it when you hurt your characters. They almost always wind up in the care of some very wonderful people. Tom and Barra are no exception. I love how they're so warm and welcoming, giving care as needed without question.

Author Reply: Elladan certainly needed someone to come to his rescue quickly this time. He was lucky Tom and Barra were there!

The real Elladan is apparently in danger of being fussed to death and drowning in chicken soup after his own accident. The ladies of his church have decided he needs looking after. I couldn't resist the plot bunny that gave me!

Poor Hal! But maybe I should say lucky Hal. He's like a kid who has an accident with the car and learns his lesson and therefore doesn't kill himself!

I'd hate to fall into icy water. Breathing it in is really painful and the pain lasts too.

Author Reply: Elrohir couldn't bring himself to banish Hal and his family, so the boy had to learn the error of his ways.

This story is (very) loosely based on real events, though in that case it was a drunk driver, not a drunken rider. I hope the real 'Hal' also learns a lesson.
