Conflicted Radiance  by Ellie 7 Review(s)

This was a nice set of reflections from Celeborn's pov. As always, you find the tenderest feeling of the heart and express them in beautiful, expressive words. After something like this, I really look forward to a longer post, similiar to your past stories, that are filled with this sort of writing.

Author Reply: Thank you very much!

I must admit that I am experimenting with other kinds of stories right now (still LOTR and Sil of course), but if the muse persuades me to write another longer, heart-felt story then I will gladly do so. Thank you so much for the encouragement and thanks as always for reading and reviewing!

Celeborn and Galadriel together are part of the future - needed to make the 2nd and 3rd ages turn out as they did. But neither her kin nor his are going to like it. Good thing they are strong and obstinate and develop pretty thick skins - because elves, like elephants, never forget!

Author Reply: That's true that elves never forget. They both had to be obstinate/tenatious individuals or they would not have survived all that happend to them over the years including her sailing without him and having to await his joining her.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

This is lovely, Ellie. I am glad you found a way to rework it. I love this:

And I was horrified upon the settling of camp to discover that everything still lay as she had originally planned - with my warriors allowing it! Even the very trees had ceased their harsh complaint against her!

Nothing like finding his beloved trees also enraptured by her! And I like that he renamed her before he really even liked her.

Author Reply: Thank you so very much for your encouragement and assistance in trying a different approach to this fic so I could repost it.

The lines you cited are some of my favorites, too! Poor Celeborn is confounded at every turn. And it really is sad when the trees turn against you, especially when you are an elf!

Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing! It means a lot to me!

Lovely piece about how the different light illuminated the beauty of Artanis. Even when she was irritating Celeborn, he couldn't take his eyes off her. Poor besotted elf - he didn't stand a chance...and even the trees were on her side! :-)

Linda

Author Reply: Considering her hair was compared to the radiance of Laurelin with a touch of silver, I figured that it would react differently in different lights. And considering that Celeborn renamed her for her lovely hair, (elves really seem to be attracted to pretty shiny things, don't they?) I figured that would be what he noticed about her the most.

She is part Telerin (kin of teh Sinda) so it makes sense that the trees would have noticed her, too. Maybe they like pretty shiny things, too?

*hums a VERY old song* "Lookin' for a lady...I'm lookin' for a lady - to change my night to day..." LOL Celeborn longs for the inspiration of love - I hope he's prepared for everything else that comes with it! LOL I'm just glad that the beauty of the forest's song was able to reach and comfort him.

Linda

Author Reply: He is totally unprepared.

I figured that Celeborn's had already tried Daeron's songs to no avail, so something had to soothe him. Of course it would be the trees.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

"She has much to learn if she is to survive here, my Galadriel." I so liked that Celeborn, although seeing her through the eyes of love, is not blind to her arrogance and pride. He may love her, but he doesn't like the way she and her people treat the Sindar. I have to agree with him - I could never understand why the Calaquendi looked down on the Moriquendi. It's not like the Noldor who came to Middle-earth had a lot to be proud of. :-/ I am really enjoying these insights into Celeborn's thoughts during this time!

Linda

Author Reply: I like to think that in his own way, Celeborn brought her around to his way of thinking. After all, she did go to live with him as opposed to asking him to go live with her in a Noldorin realm. I read somewhere that the elves of Valinor were as far above the elves who never left Middle-earth as those elves were above the first humans they encountered. I think the Calaquendi saw the Moriquendi as country bumpkins, if you will. Although as you pointed out, it didn't help the "Calaquendi" much in the end, did it?

Glad you are enjoying this so much!

Well, I guess I am one of those few that captured a copy of the first version of this story. And thought it a good songfic, at that. The material fitted the tone of the song itself, if not absolutely with the specific lyrics. But, that is the problem with most contemporary songs.

In the first chapter, I enjoyed the idea of a rising restlessness being expressed in a restful moment. Celeborn yearning for romance made me smile.

This chapter, was a paean to his own discovery that you should be careful what you wished for. Yes, he now has what Daeron had - with all its attending irritations. ;) I look forward to you posting the next stanzas.

Author Reply: I found out that song fics aren't allowed here. Oops! So, I deleted it and reworked it.

I've had fun writing about Celeborn in this way. I really could envision him wanting what he thought Daeron had. Also, Galadriel really was a little ball of fire, but he was smitten and so was she.

Thanks for reading and reviewing! I hope you enjoy the rest of the fic!
