Just delightful! Poor Eomer. His emotions are sending him messages in all caps, from his escalating annoyance at all those blue ribbons, to his flash of imagining that Lothiriel is cradling a baby of his and hers! But he's such a straightforward person, he doesn't get it.

But Eowyn knows, or at least subconsciously intuits, exactly what's going on between Eomer and Lothiriel. I can't imagine she won't be on Lothiriel's side. She wants her brother to have true love, and she can recognize true courage. Lady Wilwarin is exactly the sort of woman best calculated to get on Eowyn's nerves. I'm reminded of a good moment from "Batman and Robin" (a dreadful movie I ended up watching far too often because of my sons' inexplicable love for it), when the brave and intelligent Batgirl says to the sexually manipulative Poison Ivy, "Chicks like you give women a bad name!"

Love the brother-sister dynamic:
"Éomer took a deep breath, reminding himself how much he really loved his sister. Besides, Faramir might object to him strangling her just before the wedding."

"Faramir slid a possessive arm around Éowyn’s waist when they joined him.
'Any problems?'
'No,' both of them replied at the same time. They exchanged a grin."

And Faramir shows his wisdom by not pursuing it!

Aragorn certainly has figured things out, and approves. I'm not sure why Imrahil would be so upset. Fatherly over-protectiveness? Fear that Eomer couldn't be doing but trifling with his daughter, because of her blindness? Wonder how he'll react to an out-and-out proposal of marriage.

I suspect that the most resistance to an Eomer/Lothiriel match will come from Lothiriel herself, afraid that her blindness will make her unfit to be Queen no matter how much her heart wants Eomer. It'll take something dramatic to push these two into what's meant to be--and you've got it waiting in the wings (shiver!):
"He had no delusions of being immortal. A single orc arrow, a poisoned Southron blade, could deprive his country of her king, throwing the Mark into disarray with no clear heir defined."

Author Reply: Yes, Eomer will probably be the last to get it! Eowyn is much more in the know and so is Aragorn. And you are of course right about the kind of woman Eowyn would like her brother to marry. Certainly not somebody like Lady Wilwarin.

Some of Imrahil's misgivings will be revealed in the chapter after this one, but basically he thinks Lothiriel is too young and wouldn't be able to cope as Queen of the Mark in any case. You should also find out in that chapter what Lothiriel makes of recent developments.

And yes, there will be no shortage of complications and dramatic twists in the story!

It appears one important individual didn't sport a blue ribbon that day, and to identify him all Eomer has to do is examine his own forearm. (Grinning widely)

And his heart and imagination are already caught, while his conscious mind still has a bit of a way to go before it is ready to accept he's already in love with the one to whom his future is tied. And LOVE Eowyn's natural antipathy toward Lady Wilwarin. Heh!

Author Reply: Yes, I think Eomer's subconscious has already noticed the lack of a token and might take steps to remedy the situation, while his conscious mind is still lagging a step behind.

I think a little bit of jealousy (or whatever he chooses to call it) from Eomer is a jolly good thing! Perhaps, in a while, he'll notice just how much Lothiriel touches his heart - and just how perfect she is for him.

Although the nauseatingly perfect Wilwarin will do her best to throw dust in his eyes. He ought to think the matter through a bit - and realise just how irritating he will find Little Miss Perfect if he is actually stuck with her for any length of time.

I suspect that Eowyn has her plans! Her brother should bear in mind how dangerous she is to cross - or, perhaps, remember that she does actually know what she is talking about when it comes to who will make him happy.

Lovely chapter. But I can't forget that the doom is still in the wings and feel decidedly edgy!

Author Reply: Jealousy? He's just concerned it might not be seemly conduct... maybe he's been reading too much Belecthor? Or being king has gone to his head? But you are right he's really the blind one in this chapter. However, there might be an eye-opener for him in the near future.

And you're right to worry. *ominous music*

LOL! That ribbon contest sounded like fun. When will Eomer get his ribbon? It seems he is already envious of all the other men who could get a ribbon without second thought. I hope Imrahil takes another while to figure out his daughters activities.

Author Reply: Well, there is of course still one ribbon around that Eomer might lay his hands on and fortune favours the bold! Imrahil is slowly realizing what is going on and I get the impression he won't be too pleased about it.

Poor Eomer is jealous. At least Eowyn knows what's up. She's the only one who seems to understand both Eomer and Lothiriel. Typical!

Author Reply: Somehow in my stories Eowyn always ends up trying to manage her brother and his affairs - more or less successfully. And she can be pretty devious!

*claps and cheers*

This is fantastic - Éowyn, never fooled by a pretty face and an oh-so-soft voice, riders of Rohan, standing in line to get a blue ribbon from the courageous princess and - last but not least - Damrod winning the contest, together with a rohirric archer. The time frame may not be completely correct, but I don't care - I feel honored!

P.S.: I could kick Éomer - when will that man wake up and see what's lying directly under his nose?

Author Reply: Hello Mona,
Yes, I know about the time frame, but I needed one of Faramir's rangers, so of course Damrod came to mind. Thanks once more for letting me borrow him and his family!

Don't worry about Eomer, he'll wake up pretty soon...
