The Orc Trap  by Jay of Lasgalen 14 Review(s)

And so the two of them sowed the seeds of their own undoing, eh? Hilarious.

Author Reply: *Grin*

If they'd thought a little further, they'd have realised tht a working
orc trap may catch more than orcs ...

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed this!

That's quite sweet and funny. I'm impressed, though, that Elladan and Elrohir managed to make a working trap. It was a tad inevitable that someone was going to end up in it though!

Author Reply: I think they must have been quite practical young elves - and they learned from the best! The biggest problem I had with the story was deciding whether or not Glorfindel ended up in the trap as well :>)

*snicker* I would have loved to see the result of that trap standing beside Glorfindel. *grin*
I just love to see those two like this.

Author Reply: I very nearly had Glorfindel caught in the trap as well, and Erestor finding them all. I still can't decide which would have been best!

I do love your young Elladan and Elrohir. And, come to that, their relationship with Glorfindel. They have such a delightful active, enterprising curiosity - and a desire to involve themselves in schemes that go wrong as children's schemes so often do. I can just see them being reminded of this one ... some several thousand years from now - by a rather gleeful Glorfindel who no longer feels the need to cosset their youthful sensibilities.

Author Reply: I think the twins would be quite exhausting as children. Elrond and Celebrķan must have been glad to have Glorfindel on hand to help out at times.

I think their relationship with Glorfindel is such that he will gladly remind them of this on many occasions, even if he never tells anyone else!

LOLOL! how delightful! Poor ones. Bad thing that the plan backfired, but worst, I believe having to be rescued from their own trap! very amusing, Jay!

Author Reply: At least it proved that the trap worked :>)

Glad you liked this!

This is definitely an issue for the elves - how do you ever get away from the misdeed of your youth, LOL? Poor twins. It was a good idea, I'm sure. :D Cute story.

Author Reply: I can see Glorfindel teasing them about this for a very long time. And of course, there's always other witnesses ...

Too cool. They had to do it sometime, I guess. Good thing Glorfindel was there to get the twins down with a minimum of damage. But it sounds like someone had better wash those boys' mouths out with soap--Balrog's balls, indeed!

And honorable Glorfindel didn't give away their secret, but you never know who may be watching from afar when you do something amazingly stupid.

BTW, the difference between these naive lads and the fell warriors who would try to scour Middle-earth of orcs after the taking of Celebrian makes this story even more poignant.

Author Reply: 'Balrog's balls' has always been Elrohir's favourite swear-word - he says it a lot! They may *think* that their secret is safe with Glorfindel sworn to silence - but word will spread fast :>)

Fortunately they were able to be care-free children - and even care-free adults - for a very long time before their mother's abduction, but it's a sad comparision.

Oh, cute! You gotta love kids when they're at that age. Just old enough to build elaborate Rube Goldberg devices, but not quite old enough to understand why the world works the way it does. And there's nothing better than a sympathetic, unrelated adult who can be relied on both to help with the project and to keep quiet about when it goes wrong.

Author Reply: I've always seen Glorfindel as a sort of uncle to the twins. They can turn to him for advice and practical help, and know he'll keep their secrets. In return, he gets a *lot* of entertainment from the situation!

*giggle*
Sweet ficlet, Jay! It was so cute of the twins to want to build an Orc trap to help their Ada. And it worked, didn't it? Even if the orcs they caught may not have been what they expected *tries to keep a straight face and fails miserably*
Well, that is the sort of thing boys had to try, I suppose. I am sure Glorfindel had some fun, too *grin*

Thank you for a very amusing start of the day at work!

Author Reply: Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed this. I'm sure the twins would want to do what they could to help protect Imladris. If that means building an orc trap, that's what they'll do. *Grin* At least it worked!

Good for Glorfindel for keeping quiet. I know how the twins feel. Sometimes plans just don't work out.

Author Reply: A *lot* of the twins' plans don't work out the way they'd like. But it doesn't stop them trying, fortunately.
