That was short but good! Who knew old Tom was still hanging about in California? Creepy, though. What's happened to Jimmy???

Dear G.A.: Wow! An entertaining story, and one that I thought was going to be lighthearted, until I read the ominious ending! I really should not have enjoyed the ending as much as I did, but I heartily dislike spoiled, sullen teenagers. Anyway, I very much enjoyed this story. People should listen to Old Tom, shouldn't they? Thanks for writing and posting this. Sincerely, Darkover

A leaf-strewn jacket trailed out of the open door. Resting on its muddy sleeve, the GameBoy flashed a message: “Game Over.” ROTFLOL! Perfect! Author Reply: Thanks!

How about an open car door and jacket and Gameboy lying on the ground? Hehe. That'd do it :-) Kid would never leave his Gameboy behind. Author Reply: Check out the last paragraph now. G.A.

Oh, I love the idea of Tom Bombadil as an eccentric forest ranger, shooing the trees away from unsuspecting visitors. But....huh? Complete? Did surly Game Boy kid get on the wrong side of a black-hearted tree? Enquiring readers want to know. Or to see the drag marks on the ground, at least... Oh, that was delightfully creepy. Lovely cliffy, too. Author Reply: I'm glad you "enjoyed" it. Thanks for reviewing! G.A.

Oooh! Maybe you should have waited to post this one for Hallowe'en! Definitely Twilight-Zone city, or maybe a case for the X-files. Oh God, that's a funny picture right there — Maulder and Scully interviewing Tom Bombadil! You just can't leave it like that! You HAVE to write another chapter or three so we can find out what happened to the 'sullen teenager'. Author Reply: Mulder and Scully interviewing Tom Bombadil! It's inspired! I leave the sullen teenager to your imagination. G.A.

Ack! You can't leave it there!! That poor mom!!! Besides...the danger lies not at the intersection but further into the woods, so if the car is empty, it's most likely because Jimmy voluntarily got out and left it, and the likely reason for that would be that he regretted staying behind, even though he might have cloaked his thoughts to himself as "Might as well explore this stupid forest" instead of "I wish I'd gone with my family." And what good is Tom if he protects only cheerful, friendly people? Powerful, creepy little piece. Author Reply: Maybe Jimmy left the car to pee on a tree.... G.A.

"Old Tom is still guarding the forest". How lovely! I do think that Old Mother Willow may find she bites off more than she wanted if she tries to take on 'sullen teenager"! "Tasty boy"? I think not! Delightful visit of one of my favorite people to another part of earth. Some of us still like to believe in everyday magic! Author Reply: Oh, old Tom is still around, all right...and it's Old Mother Oak he's guarding against. Jimmy's end is still in question. Thanks for reading! G.A.

Glad to see that Tom is still alive and well and lworking with his beloved forests. Definitely creepy ending to this! Author Reply: Tom Bombadil "is," after all! As long as the forests last! Thanks for reading! G.A.
