Oh what a nice peek into Yalië's new life - and how good to see a moment of recognition that, just perhaps, things weren't going to be quite as bad as she expected.

Poor Yalie--but she's learning there are wonderful compensations for being in effect banished to Bree; and I suspect that Daisy's meals have served more than once to please the future King of Arnor and Gondor.

So, she sees the possibility of marriage as endangering her freedom? Yes, I can see such a woman as being afraid of that kind of commitment.

Author Reply: I guess that Yalie - given the difficult experiences in her family - developed a kind of "So-what"-philosophy, which showed clearly in her relationships with men... a fiery, sensual woman with enough knowledge about lust and and physical pleasure to know her own needs well - and to satisfy those of Thalguron. This, paired with a certain, distrustful cynism, would make it very difficult for her to give real trust and to bind herself to a man (well, this is my interpretation, anyway, but it was interesting enough to make me write her a tale. *smiles*)

Thank you very much!

Marvellously done!

You are so good at setting scenes, in just a few words, so that I can smell the smells as well as see the surroundings and feel the textures.

A fierce, almost protective love of the hobbits, indeed. Well put.

Thanks!

Author Reply: Thank you, dear. I'm very glad that you like this!

Poor Yalie. I thought she earned her exile. But now I feel sorry for her again. But may be her time in Bree will help her find out what she really wants. I think she has some issues with herself to figure out before she can be happy. Maybe some good old plain hobbit sense will set her straight.

Author Reply: Good old hobbit sense is a marvelous thing. *smiles*

Thank you!

Oh yes! Bree is a fascinating place, where hobbits and men live as close together as nowhere else. And only in Bree a story like this could have happened, not in the Shire, not in Gondor.

Yalië needed that distraction and the reassurance that she is a good healer after all. It only needed some plain hobbit sense to find it out.
Daisy Mugwort is a fine hobbitess and I think she made a friend that day!

Dankeschön!

Author Reply: Bittesehr! *verbeugt sich*

This is delightful, Cuthalion! You handle Yalië very well indeed, and you hobbits are charming. Well done :-)

Yalie is a good healer and a down-to-earth person. It'll do her good to be somewhere she isn't judged for her mother's profession. I hope she settles down in Bree and finds herself.

(While Thalguron, I'm afraid, leaves me cold. Untrustworthy skunk at the best of times. I almost weakened when he was treating Yalie as if she mattered to him - but it couldn't last.)

Author Reply: Well, I must admit that I like Thalguron's behavior and understanding of his own faults; it seems as if he slowly develops some kind of mature brain, and this time actually between his ears. *grins* But at the same time I am sure that Yalie is completely able to cherish this change, for in her eyes this must be a cruel betrayal. And I somehow could understand her helpless anger... which made me write this. Thank you - I'm glad that you like it!

Author Reply: Oh and of course Yalie is completely unable to cherish Thalguron's change of mind. Note: *better switch on brain before pressing any buttons*

Oh drat! I am beginning to feel sympathy for Yalie again. She has put me through so many emotions! But I am so glad that she is getting over the self-pity and opening up to the charms of the Hobbits with honesty. Well it is a good start anyway.

Author Reply: To be honest, I began feeling more and more sympathy for her while most readers despised her behavior. *grins* Sometimes it is terribly exhausting to be different, unregenerate, hurt and angry. Hopefully she will find her place in Bree, and this was exactly the start I hoped her to have.

Oh this is wonderful! I am sure that SS *loved* this--you really have Yalie's character down! And perhaps she may find Bree a far better place to have ended up in after all!

Author Reply: I was somehow drawn to her when I read Rabidsamfan's gorgeous drabble "Exile". I can understand her feeling of being lost and betrayed; maybe a big part of this mess is entirely her fault, but that doesn't help to feel better, not really. I am glad that you like this!
