OMG that is sooo sad I'm crying inside! I expected Merry, but not Pippin that was a very good story!

*sigh* Beautiful. Thank you so much. Author Reply: Thank YOU so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's sad, but at the same time lovely, I think. At least they weren't separated for very long.

Very good protrayal of their love for each other. Love the idea that Merry is Pippin's first memory and it was love at first sight for them both and that they died more or less together. Just as FrodoandSam were one, so were MerryandPippin. We should all be so lucky! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Thank you so much for reading and commenting! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. My opinion is their bond is even stronger than Frodo and Sam's, but they ARE my favorite hobbits! Thanks once again!

That was very well done. *sniff, sniff* Author Reply: Thank you, GW! I almost left it complete where Merry took his last breath, "leaving Pippin alone and bereft". But I just couldn't end it there, it was too gut-wrenchingly sad. So I eased Pippin's pain by letting him pass on as well. Thanks for commenting!

A sweet consideration of the last day--Pippin did well, and bravely! Author Reply: Thank you, Elanor! I can't imagine what Pippin was going through, it must have been very difficult. But he stuck it out, which is what friends do for each other.

I can't see these two long surviving one another any more than I can see Frodo and Sam doing the same. And they knew the joy of reunion at the last before Aragorn could join them. How joyfully they must have welcomed him.... Author Reply: Thank you for reading and commenting, Larner! I agree, I don't see Merry without Pippin or vice versa ... as unhealthy as that might be according to today's psycho-babble!

Wow...I almost lost it when Merry knelt beside his bed and wept for Estella and his lonliness. Very heart-wrenching! Yes; Pippin and Merry are brothers of the heart, never to be parted, not even in death. How I love these two! PF Author Reply: They are my two favorite hobbits :) Thank you for your comments .. I wrote this chapter first, actually. It kept poking at me until I wrote it down....and then the first two chapters were written afterwards. There may be more to come!

This is precisely why these two are best friends. :-) Always there for one another in each others' time of need. The death of one's father always weighs heavily on a son's heart, and I can see how Merry truly needs his Pippin right now. Wonderful tale. :-) PF Author Reply: Thank you! I couldn't really write from personal experience, since I haven't lost a parent yet, but I have been there for friends who have. Thank you for reading and commenting.

That was truly beautiful. I know Frodo's leaving had to hit them both hard, and this was one very lovely perspective. PF Author Reply: Thank you so much! I haven't looked at this story in awhile, and I forgot how angsty it was. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

And Merry will, I'm sure, be there for Pip when he becomes the Took and Thain. Well done, PipMer :-)
