Not Since the Days of the Last King  by Elemmírë 3 Review(s)
AntaneReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/10/2007
Gimli made a silent promise to himself right then and there to live as fully as he may in the sacrifice made by the Ringbearer and vowed to make Aragorn's city the most beautiful and strongest as ever was.

What a tribute. I don't think Frodo knew in his lifetime how many lives he touched. But I hope he knows now. We have all been touched deeply by his Frodo's and Sam's sacrifices. I am trying to become more Sam-like myself.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Hi Antane,

Sorry I took so long to reply to your review. I agree with you that Frodo didn't truly know just how many lives he touched both before the Quest and after. Then again, none of us truly do know that. I was once told (ironically by my ex-fiance's mother) that we're meant to come into contact with those that we meet throughout life ... that we are meant to learn something (profound or small) from each occurence of meeting someone different, even if that person is only in our lives for a matter of minutes. I've found that to be true in most cases: whether good or bad, we do take away a piece of everyone we've met with us.

I am trying to become more Sam-like myself.

*sigh* I know what you mean. As much as I love Frodo and find him to be the absolute perfection of a literary character, it's occured to me that it's the qualities that Sam encompasses that I would like to find in another one day--the loyalty, humbleness, unconditional love, hope unquenchable, etc.

Namarie,

p.s. You should really try writing for Marigld's Tale Challenge some time. At the end of every month, she posts what the next month's challenge will be about. Anyone can request a starter, you don't have to belong to Livejournal to submit. I must admit though that some of the challenges can be quite challenging to the point of vexation ... but then, it wouldn't any fun otherwise! LOL!

I echo the previous comment. This was original and moving, but blends in perfectly with canon. You packed so much into this brief tale - the broad sweep of the historical setting down to the personal glimpses into Gimli and Frodo's thoughts. One to savour and re-read, thanks.

Author Reply: Hello, Envinyatar! It's always a delight to meet a new reader! (to me at least)

I'm very happy that you enjoyed and also appreciated all of the hard work that went into creating the fine details of this particular story. I hope one day to write more concerning the relationship between Frodo and Gimli--it's been an idea on my personal plot bunny list for a while now and since I had such fun writing this one, I'd like to do more eventually.

One to savour and re-read, thanks.

Thank YOU! You and Harrowcat and all the others at Marigold's Tale Challenge are giving me a swelled head from such positive feedback! I'm really glad that you enjoyed this story so much! Savor and re-read as much as you like! :D

This is a 'wow' of a chapter Elemmire! The dance is very fitting and so beautifully described that I could see it unfolding before my mind's eye!
A chapter that I would almost describe as being wrongly lost on the study floor when the Prof sent his proof text to the publishers.

I am truly humbled by such praise, my dear Harrowcat. Thank you for such kind words! (and the little ego boost I felt when reading them, LOL!)

I'm very happy that you enjoyed the Dwarves' dance. I wanted the reader to truly feel like they were a part of the audience viewing it. I'm glad it worked, for I've gotten so many positive compliments on just the dance itself, let alone the rest of the story.

Thank you as always, Harrowcat, for reading/reviewing. :D
