Very nicely written. It goes really deep.

Alas that Boromir the Tall did not return to them to share in the fireboat tradition for the next Yestare. Instead he traveled down the river himself, seeking the West.

Lovely images, and good to see father and younger son sharing this together.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. This really tugged at my heart and brought tears to my eyes.
I know Denethor loved Faramir, but we rarely get to see it. I love the way you brought it out.

It is lovely to see Faramir and Denethor sharing a moment of happy harmony - even if stuffed with the dramatic irony of knowing that neither will see their beloved Boromir alive again.

And those who disregarded the second son so casually - I hope it came back to bite them when Faramir inherited the Stewardship and became the most favoured councillor of the king returned. Although I expect Faramir was too noble to make them squirm. (Hopefully Imrahil will have made them grovel.)

That was lovely as well - we don't often see happy moments between Denethor and Faramir in fic, but there surely must have been at least a few of them.

This was even more poignant than the other two.... I am so at peace to see a piece written about Faramir and Denethor that does not entail a slap or a cold word... thank you!

I'm linking this to a friend who loves Boromir too...... Thank you!

Author Reply: I'm so glad that you like this so much. I admit that this is my favorite of the three as it is about the two Men who I am most fascinated by in Middle Earth in the Third Age. I hope your friend enjoys it too!

A lovely companion piece to the other--it's rather nice to see Faramir and Denethor sharing a brief moment of amity, in remembrance of the absent loved one, for whose return they wish.

Author Reply: Thank you very much for reviewing.

Faramir and Denethor's relationship in LOTR fascinates me. It is really so much more complicated than it seems to appear, I think.

Despite the ways that Denethor's mind was twisted and even possibly manipulated by Sauron, I don't believe that the Steward would be constantly in an antagonistic relationship with his younger son. Emotionally abusive occurences between them would be all the more devastating (especially that time when Denethor pretty much tells him to come back with his shield or on it when he sends Faramir out to Osgiliath again) when there are lovely, affectionate moments that raise hope in between them. I feel that the occurences of times like the Mettare/Yestare celebrations become far fewer, the closer we get to the Dark Lord's attack on Minas Tirith, but there are enough of them that Faramir's hurt at his father's attitude after they learn of Boromir's death must be even more painful in comparison.
