A First Encounter  by White Wolf 2 Review(s)

I always enjoy reading stories which attempt to create details for Legolas's family. Tolkien said so little about anyone else besides he and his father. Which, of course, leaves a huge landscape in which to "play". For a previously sheltered wood elf to grow up to be the elf who fit in so well with people from many races and lands, he must indeed have been as precocious as you have written him. The last line gives this chapter an especially chilling note, he is headed South, directly into harms way!

Author Reply: I enjoy reading those kinds of stories, too, as well as writing them. Yes, Tolkien's lack of background for Legolas leaves the door wide open for fanfic writers, even though that lack of details is very frustrating. I think he had to be precocious for the very reason you name. His friendly personality played a big part, too. That little elfling is definitely headed into danger.

A determined one, even as a small child, obviously. Now, to see what he does when he really encounters the giant spiders.

Author Reply: Yes, our dear elf had an early start in that department. You will be seeing his reactions before too long.
