| Éowyn's despair is captured so well here, it's very intense and powerful. I really like the way that Éomer is at first so dismissive about Merry and then finally begins to realise that he was wrong about him - that really irked me in the film, that Éomer ridiculed Merry's abilities going by his appearance and cheerful nature alone. You are so right that this gap was begging to be filled! It's wonderful to finally see the process by which Éomer learns that he was wrong. Aragorn's insistence about the fortitude of halflings really shows that he has no doubt about their true worth, and I love this glimpse of Éomer being brought to the same mind! | PJ should be taking lessons from you. :-) You have taken this part of the movie to a whole new level with Éowyn's despair more intense and clearer than in the movie, and poor Merry all but forgotten by the Men. I'm eager to watch Merry be 'borne in honour into the city'. PF Author Reply: Hi Pf Well poor old PJ had a lot to fit in and I suppose it's hard to get all that across in a film. | I like Aragorn's calm acceptance that Merry is indeed alive based on Gandalf's actions alone. It shows how very much he trusts Gandalf. Later he shows his faith in Merry when he cautions, ("Do not underestimate the fortitude of the halflings," Aragorn assured both brother and sister, "the entire fate of Middle-earth now rests with two such halflings. If we were to lose faith in Frodo and Sam, then all is lost.) He knows that Merry is not to be under-valued. I do hope there is more soon. I am anxious for Merry to arrive at the Houses of Healing.
